"I think I'm going crazy"

Sometimes the appropriate response to reality is to go insane. (Philip K. Dick)

The stress of work was really getting to him. Jack knew that he always told himself that he was too stressed and needed a break, but this time he meant it. To his surprise, the doctor penciled in a neat block in his planner for a weekend which simply read "have fun". Cracking his usual Friday night routine, Jack had attended a party. This was a good start, but to fill in his block he had to keep it up.

This is where Shawn Spencer came in. As Jack hadn't known the younger man very long he wasn't sure if he qualified as a friend just yet, but he was certainly fun to be around. The two men both lived in California, one in Santa Barbara and the other in Los Angeles. In the grand scheme of things the drive wasn't too long for a weekend road trip, and Jack had offered to visit Shawn to which the other had cheerily agreed.

Stepping out of his car to greet Shawn, Jack found himself carrying two unrelated items: an alarm clock in one hand and a baseball bat in another. He felt completely relieved that he didn't know anyone else in Santa Barbara, he was sure that at the moment he looked like a crazy person.

Any onlooker could put two and two together and figure out what he planned to do with the objects. Jack shook his head at himself. This was ridiculous. Sure he was stressed, but alarm clock baseball seemed a bit much. Still, he didn't like the constant state of tension in which he felt himself. Maybe this could provide the fix he needed. Maybe he had to go a little crazy.
