Man of Science

Religion convinced the world that there's an invisible man in the sky who watches everything you do. And there's 10 things he doesn't want you to do or else you'll go to a burning place with a lake of fire until the end of eternity. But he loves you! ...And he needs money! He's all powerful, but he can't handle money! - George Carlin

I've seen my share of fanatics. Hippies, bible thumpers, radical pro-choice/pro-lifers, they're all the same. Actually, I take it back. It's the religious nuts which are the worst. They not only expect you to believe what they believe, but try to convert you by using any means necessary. All for the sake of your soul of course.

Why should I believe in something that's caused nothing but harm for centuries? People have been fighting in the name of the Lord for years and what has it accomplished? Just look at the Crusades or the mess that's going on in the Middle East. Tell me who that benefits. You don't even know for sure if there is a heaven. What happens when you die for whatever god you worship and find out that nothing happens, or worse yet, that you were wrong? Modern medicine is good, but not that good. You don't get another shot at life because you made the mistake of believing in an invisible being that somehow controls everything. If the good Lord is supposed to know all and be all powerful why didn't he just stop all the violent zealots? Or does he have that much of an ego? And here I thought he was supposed to be benevolent.

I was asked once if I believed in miracles. I just laughed. While we may not know it at the time, everything has a concrete explanation. God's just an excuse for those too lazy to find it.

could be anytime, rotm
