In their defense, it hadn't seemed this bad several hours ago. After just one day - not much at all, though certainly interesting - Moira simply wasn't prepared to give up and go home. It had seemed likely that the storm would come and go, certainly that it was headed more firmly for the main island, and there was no harm in continuing to look around when they hadn't yet seen much anyway.
As the day wore on, however, she realized her mistake. The weather wasn't terrible yet, but the waves kept climbing here, the water clearly too rough to cross now. Ishiah and Jamie had made good work of the boat, but there was no chance of its handling the ocean in this state. Until this thing blew over, they were stuck out here.
"We'd better make camp before it gets much worse," she said, reluctant though she was to abandon her exploration of the ruins. There would be time for that when the weather was better anyway. "There's nae much we can do with it like this anyway."
