The Core

As you know, Bob, I am fond of a genre of films in which Americans fight forces of nature that are trying to kill them. Thus I was pleased to discover The Core for mere pounds in the supermarket. In this one America fights Earth herself. It is about how women are evil and must be pacified with sex.

Isn't that the one where the science was so bad the scientific advisers walked out?

Is it? That sounds like it could be true.

My best friend's got a degree in geology, and she said the trailer alone made her cry. So she's never seen the whole thing. XD

I never saw this movie for fear it would cause me a brain hemmorage from all the bad skience. So like, the core of the Earth stops turning, which causes the magnetic field to stop, which causes lots of crazy stuff to happen... um, that's not really, you know, possible.

Even remotely.

And it doesn't even have Will Smith in it.

So yeah, I'd give this movie a miss.

The genre is a pleasure I can't even be bothered to feel guilty about. There's just something so adorable about films where America defeats forces of nature, scientific laws, and/or space. No one else has the sheer brazenness to try that sort of film. Best the UK can manage is allowing some of us to not get killed by zombies. It's probably very significant about current geopolitics and pancultural self-perceptions, but it mostly comes down to we're all secretly slightly pleased to see fictional Americans suffer without anyone real getting hurt?

Dude, the first rule of Deep Blue Sea is that you do not spoil people about Samuel L Jackson.

The French guy dies because the Americans hate the French. Everyone hates the French for some reason, but you'd think the Americans would be grateful. They'd still be speaking English if it wasn't for the French.

*snurk*

er, i mean...hey!

*tries to pretend i didn't laugh a lot at this line, too*
