So, I just saw the Ultimate Spiderman trailer

Just in and of itself, it’s kinda Do Not Want. It reads pretty much as “SHIELD trains a teenage Peter Parker to be the Ultimate Spiderman as a pretext for Marvel to sell a heap of toys ( Read more... )

I think this cartoon was deep in development long before they decided to kill off Peter Parker in the Ultimate verse. I remember reading that it was kind of a sudden decision,

I'm actually really excited for it, so. The characters that they're revealed are gonna be in it in addition to Peter - Luke Cage, White Tiger, Coulson, Iron Fist...the list goes on and on - has me really excited. I never expected to see most of that list on TV EVER.

I would have liked Miles as well but when do they ever go with legacy heroes for cartoons? Doesn't mean it still won't be a good series.

Now you mention it, I do vaguely recall mention of them. However, the fact that they are utterly missing from the trailer narks me as much as Peter's voice actor.

Yep I think the only ones they've shown in the trailers so far is Fury. There's been Iron Man and Cap, though. Not surprising at all :/

See, I'm coming at this from the standpoint that given their makeovers of Fury and Wasp, Ultimate Peter Parker should have essentially been Morales to begin with.

Certainly is this day and age, there is jusy no good reason for, as you say, yet another Spiderman cartoon -- especially one coming from the Ultimate-verse which at its launch was touted as being supposed to be more racially diverse than the 60s-originated 616 -- to keep its genius everyman lead white.

They can obviously spot the good things from Ultimates (Samuel L Jackson Nick Fury!) so poaching Miles Morales would have been awesome. And while I do like Spider-Man, I am really not sure why his franchise needed an utterly samey reboot this soon.

Miles is too new and unestablished. Spider-Girl on the other hand....

Well, establishing Miles via the series was kinda the point I was trying to make.

That said, I wouldn't say no to a Spidergirl series -- it'd make a nice change from the constant repetition of Peter bloody Parker -- though given their track record I'm sure a number of Marvel higher ups probably would.

I don't think establishing Miles via a cartoon is the right way to go, just because of all the restrictions that would entail. I don't really think a 22-minute cartoon made primarily to sell toys to children is the best medium in which to fully explore a new character like Miles.

I'd rather he build up his comic-character chops before starring in his own show or movie. He hasn't even had so much as a villain to call his own, let alone a definitive story arc. Call me a comic book purist, but I'd rather see this all play out as a comic book first before I watch a watered-down version for the kiddies.

That being said, he should at least get a guest or supporting role in the cartoon at some point-- even if it means going to another dimension or something. It's gonna be really confusing when a little kid picks up an issue of "Ultimate Comics: Spider-Man" and see Miles instead of Peter.
