Sounds pretty similar to my experiences. The cartoons (particularly that really crappy but somehow endearing Spider-man cartoon) pulled me in and I started collecting comics as best as someone with a ten year old's income could. Mostly Venom comics (yeah, I thought he was cool...still kind of so. Wanna fight about it?). I stopped collecting for years when I became more interested in anime and manga.

I think I was looking up X-men stuff because something had reminded of the cartoon, and I stumbled across a scans_daily post (which I think was about Wanda and Pietro's 'close' relationship in Ultimates) and the rest, as those of us who are overly fond of cliches are wont to remark, is history.

Ah, 90's Superhero Cartoons. There was nothing like them (although there were some great ones in the 00's too).

That MTV Spiderman toon was awesome.

Yeah, unfortunately it continued in the long-line of Spider-Man Cartoon Cliffhangers.
