How'd I get into comics?

Seems like a good enough time to talk about it I suppose.

I'm currently 19 and living in NY.

I first forayed into the comic universe thanks to the 1994 Fantastic Four cartoon. I think what first hooked me into it was Reed's sciencey explanations on everything and the Human Torch who has led me to love fire based superheroes.

The FF4 were always entertaining.

Soon after the Spiderman cartoon came on rather simultaneoulsly and I was quickly introduced to the world of shared universe heroes and later got into the X-Men cartoon which had been running for a while by that point.

Oddly enough when I first tried to get into the actual comics at the time they felt boring (probably just my selections). With me buying odd stories about Spider-man fighting Lady Octopus (he was married, I thought?!).

I didn't get into comics but I loved watching the animation's that happened like the eventual X-Men Evolution.

Then came my public library where I looked though and read comic trades. Oddly I remember picking up and brushing off Watchmen and finding it boring (still pretty much do). I also remember reading Peter Davids Many Happy Returns trade. Ah the days when I thought their was only one Supergirl.

It was until 2006 that I concretely decided to start buying comics. I had watched and loved the Teen Titans cartoon having never heard of them "You mean, the people with Robin weren't just made for the show?" And I picked up an issue
of 52. Having heard Starfire was in it. Don't remember the issue # but it had Lobo ripping Starfire's top off which wouldn't stop cracking me up.

I then picked up the rest of the series as it went on and even the back issues of it. From there I branched off and collected WAY too many comics. As I've collected more and more I've started to love the less known characters of the DC and Marvel universe. Though I'm oddly more of a DC fan now than Marvel, though it started my fantacism.

I hang out a lot at my LCS between classes at College. They think I know enough stuff to become a writer or editor in comics. Maybe one day.

Oh and NY Comic Con to an unassuming teen like me in 2008 took me aback. Thus in 2009 I was a bit more prepared but still just completely awwed at the comic industry. SOOO MANY COMICS....
