I attended a small staff meeting yesterday, and as we were walking to the meeting room my fellow teachers were all talking excitedly about seeing Passchendaele, which went into wide release last night here in Canada. Some of their children were also going as part of high school history/social studies class trips. scarfe and I went to the Local Giant ( Read more... )

We went last night to see PASSCHENDAELE and we weren't alone ::sighs relieved::. I hoped that it might be packed but -- it wasn't:(. But we caught the first screening and this is a small town after all.

Heh, maybe everyone just had a lot of other options. Maybe Whitehorse is hopping on a Friday night, and everyone was off...I dunno, curling or something :-)

What did you think of the movie? Did you love it? I think you must have loved it.

There is a Curling League on Fridays, though ::grins::.

I loved it, of course. I was moved, into tears, and outraged - everything I should feel in a part war movie.

Zombie. Governess. I love it! There's probably some sort of clever cultural-theory connection between fear of madness/the mob/cannibalism and 19th century governess figures. If not, I could just make it up. It sounds plausible. *nods*

Also? You must have been the most adorable little kid in the world. And, yes, incredibly dorky. Who dresses their child up as a Victorian literary reference? Your mother, I suppose.

We wish you were with us, Jessa! I think Meres and I said that to one another about six times tonight. :-( I hope you had an okay time with your mother, and that she wasn't too "mad woman in the attic." (I'm sorry, I know it's a reach, but I had to close with some kind of snappy reference).

*hugs you*

That description of the people in line for Paul's movie is awesome, and fills me with fangirl glee. So many different kinds of people! It BETTER come to the US!

I want to see W too. And unlike Oliver Stone, I DO point fingers at the electorate who put the boob in office TWICE. Is that just me?

No, I don't think it's just you :-) I WISH there was a little more finger-pointing. If the problem with Bush is that no one ever told him he was wrong, well, why does the movie then not tell the American people that they were wrong? Or, at least, too passive and willing to settle for less?

The theatre wasn't packed when I saw Passchendaele last night (though we did run into some people who'd just come out of W, oddly enough), but there were a fair number of people for 10pm. It should play well here, considering the middle bit is total Alberta porn.

YAY, PAUL! he's doing PG arms RIGHT NOW, nos. (hee.)

oh. i don't have a halloween costume yet! what to do? what to do?

last year, i had just moved and i didn't really have a costume, but i was wearing my HCL sweatshirt that day, and my coworker gave me kitty ears to wear, so i told people that i was hugh dillon dressed as a kitten. WHICH WAS FUNNY ONLY TO ME. *sigh*

You definitely need a proper Halloween costume this year, Z. I mean, I LOVE the "Hugh as a kitten" thing, but maybe go for something with a wider appeal this time? Like, Hugh Dillon as an astronaut? Or a hot nurse? Maybe?

Damn.

HEE.

there's another aspect to this, in that halloween weekend is essentially what would've been my wedding anniversary. it's my favorite holiday, and we had a halloween costume party wedding. *sigh* i really need to find some other way of celebrating the day, eh?
