Well, that was an hour and a half of my life that I won't be getting back

Oh man. Owing to a recent conversation with vsee and my own desire to watch something that didn't require a lot of braincells, I remembered I'd bought a VHS copy of An Affair to Remember about six years ago. It's been trailing me around the country. I bought the film when I was still in northern BC, and I think it sat in my dad's basement in Calgary ( Read more... )

You know, nos, ds_harlequin should be starting up pretty soon...*cough*

And you watched the whole thing? I guess my years of being a video store clerk come in handy - if I'm not liking it in the first twenty minutes, I don't watch it. Why waste time on crappy movies? (I used to watch 10-12 videos a week when I worked at the store...)

Ha! Don't tempt me! I signed up for the last ds_harlequin and the WIP has been sitting my hardrive mocking me for the last half-year.

And yes, I watched it to the bitter end. I've never had the fortitude to just turn bad movies off. Teach me your secret!

Ah, it's easy, actually. Think of all the movies that you want to watch, that you could be watching instead of this piece of &%^#*!

'Course, I'm a real movie fanatic. And really, there are so many movies on my 'to watch' list...

NO, they be stealin' my ideas! *sues*

Am quite interested into how they can see into the fictional far AU future from a meteorological station in Banff, however.

Roman Holiday is GORGEOUS and much more worthy of your time. Also not so much with the melodrama and more with the snark. *hearts*

I do feel that there should be a tragic moose accident, just so those three words can be written together in a fic.

Hey, you never know with us Canadians. We're tricky types. Seeing into the far fictional AU verse inside your head is peanuts compared to creating a national healthcare policy. *rimshot*

I take "tragic moose accident" as a very serious challenge. I'll find the angst. You just watch.

Everything goes well but on the day of the meeting Kerr gets mowed down by a car in what I can only describe as a hilariously mistimed bit of editing.

This is the best bit of writing about this film I have ever read.

Grant thinks she stood him up and it breaks him a little. He goes on some sort of artistic binge and creates what appear to be remarkably ugly oil paintings. Six months later they bump into each other again, Grant figures out why Kerr didn't meet him, and all is well. OMG, not quite right..it's supposed to be more than a year, and it's nearly and hour and a half of angsting about her accident, and his struggle to become a world famous and RICH painter. Apparently that is considered a Real Job. It's best if you are a playboy to a have a skill like being a brilliant artist (but have never practiced your art) to fall back on ( ... )

V, I really kind of love your Wisconsin story :-) And yes, it does help to be a wealthy playboy who *also* happens to be a great painter. Convenient, that.

Dear lord, that screenplay! I still can't get over it!

Clearly, I need to see this film. If only to better understand when you mow down Fraser and/or Ray in a tragic drive-by mooseing

I don't think you need to waste your time. I'll cover the highlights in my tragic drive-by mooseing story. (Which, as vsee pointed out, has factual precedent!)

It's a strange, strange world, Cat!
