Forgiveness.

[Hello, fellow Vatheonites. Jacob hasn't spoken to you in a while. He gazes at the camera with pensive eyes, pausing before continuing to speak.]

Forgiveness is a rather complicated subject. Everyone knows what forgiveness is, but when it comes to actually thinking about how to use it in a situation, there are no clear rules about it. ( Read more... )

Hmph. Why bother with forgiveness? It's a waste of time and enery and could be better spent on other, more worthwhile things. [... If Silver sounds bitter, he is.]

[A pause.] Silver, did something happen?

No. [YES, YES IT DID BUT GDI HE'S NOT ADMITTING IT, OK?]

Hmph. Like bettering yourself, of course. Getting stronger.

You do not wish to put your energies towards helping or bettering the lives of other people?

[Oooooh, who are you? Signless wants to know you better!]

Everyone deserves forgiveness, and a second chance. Even if they choose to wallow in what is cruel and wrong in their lives, they deserve your forgiveness, if for no other reason than how sad and empty their lives must be.

[KINDRED JESUS FIGURE COME TO ME *A*]

Exactly. Whatever they have done, whatever their values are, there is always a chance that they can change. That they can realize what they are doing and pull themselves out of the hole they have dug themselves into.

Yes. And if you push them aside and reject them, then they will be less willing to seek you out, should they want to change.

[Pause]

What is your name, my friend?

Precisely. You should always have your heart open to anyone who is willing to share.

[He smiles.] Jacob. What is your name? I believe we haven't met.

[OF COURSE KARKAT he understands :)]

It isn't weird. Everyone forgives.

What sort of things have you forgiven people for?

[He listens carefully, letting Karkat's words sift through his mind. What a horrible life he grew up in. But he became a leader. He saved the ones he loved. Even if he met with failure, his accomplishments fair outweighed them.]

You aren't a bad troll, Karkat. There have been many things which have been unavoidable in your life, such as your violent race and surroundings. But you, as an individual, have accomplished so much.

You see people for who they really are, and you are able to make good judgements about others. Yes, some people forgive because they think that there's nothing important about it, but you understand just how complex forgiving can be.

People make mistakes. And people learn or they don't. It's a part of life.

[A smile.] You don't sound stupid. And I assure you, I don't have "freaky mind powers". There are still many things about you which I have yet t know. You aren't like an open book for me, Karkat. Just a book cover. And you cannot understand the true story inside by reading what the cover says.

Ah, Effy. Welcome back.

I agree. There is no time like the present.

Yeah.

[She nods, a tiny smile gracing her features.]

But if it's something bad -- something like murder. I wouldn't. That's too far.

Even if the person who committed said murder was a close friend or family member?

Motivation? I simply had been thinking about it and wanted to discuss it. I guess some people back home would have a purpose behind it, to persuade someone else, but this is mostly an open discussion so people can put forth their opinions.

Yes, it is. We have many people back home who think about this all the time. Some even make careers on the mysteries of humanity and its existence.
