Thank you for linking to that astonishingly open wiki article.

I've just read police protocols from the French revolution, as well as the Russian revolution: In both cases the authorities point out that it was women who led the protests, and without whom they would have easily quelled the uprisings.

It is an interesting page. I hadn't really thought about the origins of the day before. Also, in China today is a national holiday, but only for women. Imagine that. So some fun trivia too.

I tend to think it is way more than trivia - it is our history, our struggle and we need to connect to our roots and origins, as well as the different forms it took and takes in different societies.

If we forget our history, we cannot learn from it (and are doomed to repeat the same mistakes over and over again).

It should be a holiday all over the world. :)
