thank you! It's one of those things where, two hour movie, there are only so many talky scenes they can show as opposed to big splendid dramatic action scenes but that's what fic is FOR, then, right? I'm glad my imagining of what that might have looked like fit into someone else's picture too.
I really enjoyed this, I love how Jim seemed to be managing the memorial so that everyone could share their stories. It shows his good leadership traits. It was also nice to see some mutual respect combined with formality between him and Spock.
thank you - I think that once things had settled, especially with that glimpse of what was inside Spock Prime, Jim would be maybe not EASIER with him? But have more of an idea what's going on inside that stoic Vulcan shell.
Most excellent. There's Kirk actually being a captain, instead of the obnoxious, arrogant jerk off that the movie seems to think a captain should be. And a good coda acknowledging the destruction that went on.
Thank you! I think that a Kirk whose abilities have been acknowledged, who is doing what he's supposed to be doing, has much less of a chip on his shoulder. And I really kind of hated that the losses weren't acknowledged in the movie at all, really.
A list of things I love about this: Spock's observations; you played him so well. Their own memorial filled with laughter and celebration, as their lives were. Jim and Bones taking care of everyone in their quiet/discreet way. ♥ The entire last paragraph or so and how I can feel the rawness.
(Also, I didn't have to squint for Kirk/McCoy. ;])
And Gaila lives! Did you see the deleted scene from the movie where he thinks it's Gaila and he apologizes? That Kirk is somewhat the Kirk I am feeling here.
The Jim in my head, thoughtlessness and somewhat unhealthily driven to be seen as more than his father's sacrifice though he is, knows an unfortunate amount about loss and how people cope with it. He'd take care of his team.
(and until I see otherwise in black and white, Gaila was on the Enterprise :P)
