Welcome to norsekink!

Keep up the awesome, folks.

A/N: This prompt. I could not resist it.

By This Subjected

Thor faced the Destroyer, neck craned as he looked up at its expressionless metal face, seeking sign somehow of the one who had sent it, who guided its actions. His chest ached at the knowledge that his brother would go to these lengths to hurt him. All the anger and betrayal he had felt when Sif told him… when he found out how Loki had deceived him… all that had dissolved in a single, sinking moment. There had to be a reason for his brother to do what he had done, he had thought: he knew that Loki loved him, knew that while Loki might toy with him and tease him and trick him for the joy of it, he wouldn’t do this without a reason. And as he asked the question of himself, he saw the answer all at once. And he understood, seeing the whole of their lives together as a flash and finally noticing the silent, simmering hurt that he had never seen before ( ... )

Oh yes. This is the far better outcome (though how does he plan to keep Odin and Frigga from putting a stop to these shenanigans 0_o).

As he waited in the in-between-worlds, looking on at the ruin wrought by the Destroyer on Midgard, Loki knew exactly what he wanted. As he had made his plans and set them into motion, his mind was filled with only one thought, only one image: the utter defeat of the mighty Thor. Finally being rid of him. No longer having to shape his life around him. At last standing in no one’s shadow. He had gone to such lengths to reach this point-this final moment before his triumph. In that knowledge-the feeling had not come yet, he did not feel as if he were on the edge of victory, did not feel what he should have felt, but he clutched at the certainty that it would come-he stood watching as Thor strode forward in idiotic bravery to sacrifice himself. Stood listening, detached and cold, as Thor blundered through an apology to him for wrongs he didn’t understand and deeds he had not even been aware of, as he pleaded for the lives of the mortals he cared so much for. But it didn’t matter what he said. Loki knew exactly what he meant to do: he ( ... )

Thor looked at those four, his dearest friends, those who had surely risked much to come to his aid here on Midgard. He swallowed the sudden surge of worry that he felt. They would not understand what had transpired, and he was not sure he did either. He did not have his brother’s skill to explain such a thing. “I have promised my brother my service, for as long as he desires it. I was… happy to offer it.”

“What?!” came the shout from three at once-and even Hogun’s eyes went wide as an astonished murmur escaped.

“You cannot be serious!” Fandral said, seeming ready to grab him by both arms and shake.

Sif spoke then, her voice low and serious, cutting through the air of panic. “Thor, you must not do this.”

“It is already done,” Thor said, shrugging. “I gave him my word.”

Sif shook her head, her dark hair tossing back and forth like the tail of a whip. “No, Thor, there are things you do not yet know. Things you should understand. Loki has tricked you into this.” She reached out to take his hands in hers, squeezing them as she ( ... )

It had been centuries before then that Loki began on his first forays into the secret pathways between worlds and the strange, disorienting mists that lingered there. After first discovering the half-crumbled scrolls in the depths of Asgard’s libraries, in rooms that had themselves been forgotten and their contents long since vanished from memory, wondering if even Odin knew of the spells he wove, he had brought himself into the space that lay behind and led between all worlds. A dim and shadowed place. A series of hallways where the very air seemed opaque, tunnels with a feeling of being deep underground, labyrinthine pathways that followed the capillaries of the World Tree, making shapes he could not even hold in his mind. At first it had been a thrill to travel on those roads no others had mastered in so long. But over time the pleasure of it wore away. And then one day he realized that it galled him to be confined to them, scuttling in the shadows like an insect. And so when he began to plan his scheme, he had thought to bring the ( ... )

And now he went to retrieve it. Just before he learned that Fandral, Hogun, Volstagg, and Sif had gone to Midgard after Thor, just before he followed them with the Destroyer, Loki had brought the Frost Giants through into the mists and given them instructions to remain there until he had cleared the way for them. He had said that he would return to bring them the rest of the way through. Several of the Jotnar had grumbled at that-the one he had heard called Helblindi, who spoke to Laufey as only a son speaks to a king (Loki realized this made Helblindi his sibling; the thought made him shudder), had demanded to know what they were to do if he failed to return. Laufey had given Helblindi a sharp look. But Loki had only reassured them, all obsequious smiles. “You needn’t worry about that. But I’m sure you could follow your own trail back to Jotunheim and come out no worse than you began, if you were to decide to turn back ( ... )
