By This Subjected

Thor faced the Destroyer, neck craned as he looked up at its expressionless metal face, seeking sign somehow of the one who had sent it, who guided its actions. His chest ached at the knowledge that his brother would go to these lengths to hurt him. All the anger and betrayal he had felt when Sif told him… when he found out how Loki had deceived him… all that had dissolved in a single, sinking moment. There had to be a reason for his brother to do what he had done, he had thought: he knew that Loki loved him, knew that while Loki might toy with him and tease him and trick him for the joy of it, he wouldn’t do this without a reason. And as he asked the question of himself, he saw the answer all at once. And he understood, seeing the whole of their lives together as a flash and finally noticing the silent, simmering hurt that he had never seen before

Seriously though, I really love Loki's POV, I love his reminiscing about what would it be like to be a jotun, the way he views his biological family. It's all awesome! I hope there'll be more soon! :D

I've set myself a goal of at least a chapter a day, and while this is a bit of an ambitious project (you should see my outline. I've written stories that were shorter), thus far I've never failed to complete a WIP. So please do keep checking back! :D

In a room just around the next corner, beyond wide doors, watched over by two silent ravens, under a blanket of golden light in which countless motes hung in slow suspension, the Allfather slept his long sleep. Loki knew this. The last time he had been in that room, he had sat at the bedside opposite Frigga as she told him again what he already knew of the purposefulness of Odin’s every action. Whether the theft of a Jotun infant or the banishment of his own firstborn. She had explained, in words so tender that he nearly believed them, that Odin’s lies had been meant to protect him, and she had offered hope for the restoration of their entire family. He had looked into her eyes, the mother he still loved dearly, as she inclined her head and called him her king. And when she told him to make his father proud, his thoughts had been completely calm above the turmoil of his emotions. He had known exactly what he had to do

It was minutes later, but seemed an eternity, that Frigga wrapped her arms around Loki and pulled him close. She was still weeping, though it was a slow, graceful fall of tears now. As the healers swarmed around the stricken king of Asgard, one had gently moved Loki and Frigga away, murmuring that they would do everything within their power to save him but that the family should wait nearby and not torment themselves with the sight. So now they stood together in an antechamber, alone in a silence that seemed edged with the whisper of whatever was occurring on the other side of the door.

“I'm so sorry, Mother, I came too late,” Loki said as she held him, “This… this is all my fault.”

“No,” she replied softly. “Don’t say that, Loki.”

“You do not understand. I brought them here,” he said, his voice coming out as a choked, desperate sob

As she watched, Loki’s smile cracked and his eyes squeezed shut and the tears began anew, dripping down his cheeks, and he even seemed to tremble. This time he did not reach for her, instead pulling away and wrapping his arms around his own shoulders, collapsing in on himself, his head dipping in defeat. When he spoke, it was in a slow, shaky whisper directed at the ground. “Mother, I cannot do this. I have made such a mess of everything. Please, take the scepter from me. Let it pass to Thor, or you can rule… as we wait for Odin to awaken. I am not fit to be king.”

Frigga did the only thing she could do. She pulled him into her embrace. “No, Loki. I won’t do that. You have made mistakes, but no one has ever lived who did not, and I have faith that you will see them repaired. I have faith in you. You will rule until Odin awakens, my son

Loki stood shrouded in the shadows in one corner of Odin’s chambers, leaning against a pillar, shoulders slouched and head hanging wearily. He and Frigga had finally been permitted within, with a healer’s caution that Odin’s injury was severe and nothing was yet certain, and together they had approached the place where the Allfather lay-the very same as where he had lain in Odinsleep, though no sign of blood or of the battle that had taken place there remained. (Loki wondered briefly what had been done with the bodies of Laufey and Helblindi, and he had a thought to inquire later, for his own purposes

The air buzzed with unasked questions: Was the news of a Jotun attack on the sleeping king of Asgard accurate? Had Odin perished? Was Loki still ruling in his stead, even though the elder son had returned from banishment? And-here was the question hiding beneath every tongue-was there to be war
