Ok, so about 6 months ago,l we had a MASSIVE wind storm that knocked down trees all over town. One of the fallen giants was the ANCIENT oak tree that had lived for over 2 centuries outside the local Masonic Lodge. Before the city could clean it up, I grabbed a nice chunk of splintered wood off the ground and it's sat on my Altar ever since ( Read more... )

Have you asked the wood what you should do with it, to see if it suggests something?

I second that and as an artist I do this with materials. Put the wood in view, so you always see it, in the corner of your eye and very soon you will know.

*forehead slap* I hadn't thought of asking the wood what it wanted. So simple, and yet it never occurred to me! I'll set things up tonight.

Let us know, please!

My husband said he would be glad to carve it into an antheme, if you want. He's great at that (he is a Native American Shaman - cool, huh?).

You can PM me, if you want

May I suggest that you have two very different questions here-
The first, how to get the wood into the shape you want has been tackled pretty nicely.

The Second, how to harvest the energy of the wood and storm while reducing the amount of chaos and damage is quite a different matter.

While merging with the wood to see if it and the energies within want to be part of your working tool resources- you should be able to get a decent read of how compatible its energy will be with yours.

Personally, I'd keep this on hand for banishing spells that need a very special extra kick, and seeking the combined energies then. Trying to hobble a storm for gentle workings tend to take more energy than they wind up offering.

Being a frugal witch, I'd certainly gather every bit of sawdust from any carving or shaping for a lovely incense base-

If it is big enough to place 3 candles on it? Why not make it your Yule Log? I mean it would have a great boost for the season!

You could use a little bit and make it into a wand.

Personally, I would save this for a capital-S Situation. That is, I would tuck it safely away until I needed that much oomph for something really important.
