Thank you for your comment! It's sad, isn't it... Maybe that's why I like this part of the story so much! There's a lot to explore about these two, especially after reading the novel which /SPOILER describes Fang and Vanille's journey into the temple and their meeting with Anima.
I love Fang's stubborn self-willed determination, and the way she throws herself headlong at challenges. I also love the details of the ritual to become a Hunter. Lovely!
What I like about Gran Pulse, or Oerba at least, is how it's such a fascinating mix of modern technology and tribal traditions. When you read the novels, Fang and Vanille act like hunter-gatherers tossed into a city, yet they also know how to work (and short circuit!) elevators and muck around with robots. I wanted to explore more of what made up life in Oerba, beyond the bits and pieces they showed us in the game. Ah... SE, you need a prequel... *sigh*
Oh thank god. It's been terrible out there for the FxV fiction. Lightning's the town bicycle, Fang's a popular requested prostitute, and Vanille's dead in a ditch somewhere. I've missed the good writing before the game came out ;.;. Please write more...please!
I loved this, the little background details you added in the beginning to add depth to either own initiation was a nice added touch. Never explaining what happened to Fang in the past was also a great hook to read on and see if it's explained anywhere along the way. Kind of like Tarantino never saying whats in the suit case... you want to know...Over all I really enjoyed this. It's such a nice relief.
Thank you! Aside from making me chortle out loud with such a colourful (and sometimes apt) description of FFXIII fanfic, it's great to hear what parts of the story worked for you.
I haven't thought about what really happened to Fang as a child, but I wanted her to have more depth than simply "Must protect Vanille! Will die for Vanille! Graa!" Perhaps a bit of a cliche, but in my head I wove a sort of survivor's guilt for her... that everyone she loved died and only she was spared, so she fixated on the idea that her own life should actually be in exchange for keeping her new family and loved ones alive.
Jokes on bad fanfic aside though, there really has been a lot of volume and some good reading. But no 100,000 word earthshaking epics yet, which is I think something this OTP needs to kick off. It could even be AU (actually, probably needs to be, given the tight constraints of canon), but the pairing just needs to be celebrated.
Hmm. maybe so, but I still think there is great potential still for them. Orphan( this names easier) may be dead, but the other Fal'Cie hmm...the possibilites are still endless, i don't think they killed ALL the Fal'Cie. Hell they might be in crystal form too! Also, if Fang and Vanille had that power, maybe there were others also ..
Hmm. *wheels turn* With the fal'Cie still in the picture there might be. But (and this is just a personal quandary), how to write an "after" story with an ending that tops becoming Ragnarok, saving the world, and being crystallized in eternity forever. I've bounced a few ideas in my head, but they all fall short. I do want to try it though... Thanks for the nudge.
