TWO of Us

Jun 17, 2010 19:34

It's been an odd couple of days. I met the professor I'll be working with, a Yank auror named Dr. Spencer Reid. I was kind of excited to meet him, because he wrote this paper that I've read over and over about the use of Potions in auror interrogations that's completely innovative and exciting ( Read more... )

awkward, dr reid, it's the job

[shuffle] Um, yeah. I have a tendency to speak (and act) before I think. Not much before, but enough to sometimes regret it.

Yeah well, you're not the most tactful person on earth either.

A potions paper?

Yeah, I'm not surprised.

Yes! It was on the experimental use of veritaserum alternatives on suspects during interrogation in order to prevent false arrests and convictions. It's brilliant stuff. I showed it to my boss in the states when they were considering revamping their interrogations techniques.

I don't really know...anything...about Potions.

But preventing false arrests is a good thing!

You take potions, right? So you know something about it! Potions play a pretty significant part in auror training, so it's good to know at least the basics. I can identify most potions by scent alone, which is a skill that has come in useful a few times. I can work with you on it next year if you want.

Dr. Reid's paper is pretty straightforward, and deals with the ethics of using the potion, so even with a basic knowledge of potions you would probably enjoy reading it.

Gotten into trouble~? Hard to believe, that.

Hey there, my name's Dr. B.F.Pierce, but you can call me Hawkeye. Nice to know that you're at least starting to get used to the madness that is his castle after being away from it for so long.

I actually find myself in trouble...well, more often than I'd like to admit.

Nice to meet you. I think I'm getting settled in alright (and by 'settled in,' I actually mean, 'pissing people off') but I'm happy to get to meet other professors (besides Reid).

Does that have to do with what you did/do for work~? If so, that's highly understandable. I myself come across a sticky situation from time to time.

Nice to meet you as well, Ms. Beckett~ I mean, it's not everyday that you get to see a fresh new face that can somehow breathe life into this rather dreary castle.

I'm an auror, and a former Gryffindor. That probably tells you all you need to know.

*blushes* Feel free to call me Beckett. It's nice to meet someone who seems genuinely happy that I'm here.

[He wanted to tell her how irritating she was. How much he wished she would just go back to wherever she had come from and leave him in peace. But, there was a little voice in the back of his mind, a voice that sounded an awful lot like his mother. 'Spencer, be a gentleman!']

Look...

There's no sense in us fighting. We're here, we have a job to do.. let's just make the best of this. For my part I... apologize for anything I may have done or said that offended you. I assure you it wasn't my intent. I've been rather careless the past few days.

I, uh...wow. I mean, I'm...sorry, too. I really do just want to help. And somehow when I try to express that to you, I get it all wrong, and then we end up arguing, and we don't accomplish anything.

So...truce?

This isn't.... this isn't how I normally am. I just feel like you've showed up and your enthusiasm, while admirable... I feel like you're running away with this, and I don't operate that way, Beckett. I can't just run into a burning building. I need to have a plan first.

I know you're a competent Auror... I got an owl earlier today with your files.

Yes... truce.

You've seen my files? Oh...ok.

Plans are not my strong point, but I'm willing to try.

I got an owl today too...from my boss. Let's just say I'm glad we've reached a truce.

*amused at the "one more thing" line*

Don't take it too hard. You'll find yourself doing many strange things while you're here.

[[Sorry for the extremely late comment, but hi!~]]
