[Filtered to Faculty and Staff]A student asked a question about sex and how babies are made in their journal. Some of the answers in the responses concern me. There is all sorts of misinformation circulating amongst the students about sex. It makes me fear STDs and unplanned pregnancies for our students ( Read more... )

Won't that just make them mess around all over the castle, though

Dunno about you but I definitely do NOT wanna see that all over the damn place!

Newsflash: they're already having sex. Don't you remember Dumbledore's speech about 'sexual relations in the Prefects' bath'? I just think they should know how to be safe.

OH I KNOW THEY ARE, I just don't wanna see them at it. I don't remember that speech though Won't more of them go at it which all these... extra information?

But hey if you wanna educate 'em knock yourself out. Though if YOU teach the class they might get DISTRACTED and not really get the message. . . I mean you DID win that contest too, ya know. ...Ya know.

The information they have now is that babies come from storks and cabbages. Thirteen-year-olds should have better information than that. I don't think there's any proof that more information leads to more sex.

I can't believe you brought up that ridiculous contest. I don't see how that's relevant to this discussion.

[irritated sigh] Every now and then there's a seminar, and it all gets very hilarious awkward, and then a month or two later someone asks another silly question and the whole thing starts again.

I do wonder what their parents are teaching them these days. Stars and stones, back in my time, everybody knew exactly how it worked at that age -- and half were already married.

[Stars and stones? Kate snorts.]

Yeah I really expected a thirteen year old kid to know more, or at least know what wasn't true, but it appears that she doesn't have parents, so I'm not sure how she would know.

I can imagine it's all kinds of awkward, but seriously, cabbages?

[hey, it's from the bookverse, don't knock it. XDDDD]

Well, a child isn't raised in a vacuum. Unless she's been living on the streets -- which she isn't, is she? -- whoever's responsible for her should at least let her know what to avoid.

[snort of laughter] ..That's a new one.
