Saying goodbye to Kassia was one of the hardest things Donna had had to do. If ever she had a daughter of her own she hoped she'd be just like Kas. Being around her triggered all those deep rooted maternal instincts Donna tried so hard to hide. In fact, part of her had been more than a little tempted to stay behind with Kassia on Scallite VI to

"Donna, don't." He spoke softly, turning his head in the slightest of a warning. It wasn't that he didn't appreciate the offer, but concern of how the emperor might act with a woman speaking so boldly.
"CONTROL THIS WOMAN OF YOURS, DOCTOR!" The emperor pointed a finger towards Donna, eyes ablaze with anger.
"Right. Sorry, yeah? She has a point, though... Allow me to think about this offer."
He bows, and quickly takes Donna's arm before she could protest, and pulls her out of the tent. Spinning her around, he speaks in a low hushed voice, "You have to be careful! He's not in the right mind. We can't risk anything right now, definitely not now!"

"What? It's not like he'll remember it in a few hours any way! Excuse me for trying to rescue you from hours of playing hand-holding and star-gazing with Mr Nutso over there." She huffed, folding her arms across her chest. See if she tried to rescue him again. Nope. Next time he could sit there for hours.

"Not yet." The Doctor replied, leaning across Donna to speak to John, which must've made it slightly annoying for the women between them.
"And why not!?" Rose asked, shoving John's head away to look over to the Doctor. "He's mental! I mean, he'd properly fit in a loony bin!"
"Tomorrow, alright? Just... not right now. Have a rest, we'll discuss this at breakfast." When he straightened and sat back on his knees, a feeling of dread overcame him and he bent in half for a moment before straightening back up. Vaguely, he wondered if John felt it too - how much Time Lord was in him? His brows furrowed and he had a frown upon his face as he looked over to see... he was oblivious.

"Doctor? What's going on? There's sommat you're not telling us. Come on, just let us know what's going on in that oversized mind of yours. Why do we have to stay here with King Fruitloops? You said we could leave once we got here..."

He's ignoring her questions right now, deciding now was the time they had to leave, thanks to John clobbering the emperor with a table decoration.
"You knew?" John looked disappointed, definitely feeling the handicap of being part human -- how had he missed it? Better yet, how long had the Doctor known? "If I'm noticing it now, then does that mean the hole in this timeline," He swallows, "Is it near?"
Rose wasn't sure who to look at, her eyes going between each person. Concern for Donna, confusion of what John was saying, worried for the Doctor.

"Is what near? Doctor? Should we be worried? What's near? Are we in danger? Is something coming? Are these people safe?!"

It was throwing off his senses, honestly, which meant it was far larger than the one he and Donna went through. Exactly how many might be affected was unknown at this point in time, as he couldn't even pin-point where it was.
Footsteps could be heard echoing down the halls, and Rose ran to look around the corner, "Doctor, we got to go!"

Rose was right though. Leaving would definitely be good, considering they had left the emperor in an unconscious heap on the floor. Rotting in jail or being executed were hardly on Donna's to-do list.
She grabbed hold of the Doctor's hand. "Come on! Let's get out of here."

He wasn't hungry, despite barely recalling when exactly it had been the last time he ate, hence the sneaking of the food. Knowing the hole in the timeline was upon them made him too anxious as of late; it was amazing he was considering sleep earlier that night.
Conversations continued late into the evening until they began to die down as exhaustion started settling in. The Doctor lied on his back with a hand in the air tracing some of the constellations, thinking of some of the stories he was taught growing up. Not far off, he heard a stirring and saw Rose pop up.
"The fire is dying out." She commented heavy with sleep as she came over to the Doctor, "Not very responsible, are ya?" There was a light teasing to her tone.

And so the exhausted ginger was curled up with her back to the dying fire, getting some much needed sleep.
John stirred at the sound of Rose's voice and forced himself to sit up. "Fire's dying? Do we have any wood left?" Unlikely. "We should go get some."
Reply
The Doctor started to do the same, until Rose stopped him, "I know you. You haven't slept at all, retreating into that big mind of yours. It's fine; we're fine. Try to get some sleep, OK?" She patted his shoulder, "Soon, we'll be back in the TARDIS and forget this ever happened."
He nodded and settled himself back down, but sleep was far from his mind. He lied there, watching the embers glow and listened to Rose and John chat softly in the distance mixed with the near dawn stirrings in nature.
Simultaneously after about 2 minutes, the wind started to pick up and then his hearts pounded in his chest, with his head aching quite a bit. A sudden sense of fear overcame him and he scrambled up to his feet faster than you can say 'Rose', because that was the only thing echoing in his mind.
"Rose?" Oh no. No, no no no no! Not here! NOT NOW.He ran as fast as he could in the barely lit woods, "Rose?!" He looked all around him, knowing ( ... )

"Doctor?! Rose?!? John?!?! Where is everyone?!" She was totally beginning to panic. Where had everyone gone?
"DOCTOR?! Where are you?!"

Walking further into the market he manages to barter for some bread and some native fruit from the area. To him, nothing else looked appetizing, but he left Donna to her own bartering as he sat by the fence. Realizing he couldn't stand the idea of having Donna out of his line of sight, he pulled off a small piece of bread and tucks it away in his mouth.

She was fast-developing a mental Doctor Bullshit Detector. It was very useful.
Donna was able to barter for some bread and cheese, as well as some local mead. It did mean she vanished inside a tent for all of five seconds, mind.

"Get anything good?" He looked at her hands with great curiosity and pointed to the bottle, "What's that?"
Eventually, he realizes, they'll have to find camp somewhere. He couldn't speak for Donna, but he had his fill riding on a horse for the day, and the poor creature needed a rest too. Maybe they could find a real bed for the night?

"Mead. It's supposed to be good. Bread and cheese too. Have a sniff!" She practically shoved the bread under his nose.
"So, what's the plan? I think sitting on that horse has killed my butt."

Walking alongside the river banks, he finally spotted that flame red hair, "Donna!" He wouldn't admit it, but his hearts stopped beating so fiercely when he spotted her and his mind calmed down. They were fine; they were safe.
Nevermind she'll probably have a heart attack from him finding her rather unannounced.

She was blushing almost as bright as her hair. "Well, turn the other way then, Spaceman! A girl needs her privacy!" Ugh, damp clothes were gross.
Reply
"Hurry up, we have alot of convincing to do if we want to try and find a proper bed for the night." Otherwise it's camping out once again. So far, these locals seemed OK at their presence.

"Keep your hair on, Time Boy. Jeeze. Untwist your knickers for a minute."
