Douchey Moments in History

Nov 01, 2010 08:34

From now until December 19th, I'm going to be posting various clips featuring Noah at his most douchetastic. I'm going to say right up front here that any one of these instances could probably be dismissed as understandable and forgivable, brought on by the circumstances, and what have you... but eventually that excuse stops working. Nobody is ( Read more... )

The thing that makes Noah so douchey in most of the clips is not always the situation, but just how he handled it ( ... )

Yes, I agree with all of this. The fact that Noah wasn't ready to come out of the closet does not make him a douche -- the fact that he was willing to destroy Maddie's life to stay in the closet DOES make him a douche.

I probably would have been willing to give him a pass on kissing Luke and then trying to pretend like it didn't mean anything, if that had been the only time he'd done something douchey -- after all, I can totally understand how he could find himself just completely unable to resist kissing Luke's very pretty lips, and then freaking out about it because he wasn't ready to deal with being gay -- but when you see how many other times Noah has acted like a complete dickwad, you just can't dismiss this as uncharacteristic behavior brought on by extreme circumstances. Because it's NOT uncharacteristic for him, not at all... being a douche is pretty much his defining personality trait.

Yea, even though I saw all the red flags in the very beginning and didn't really appreciate the way he was acting, I still forgave him for that. I understood that what he was dealing with was really difficult.

But it wasn't just this unique situation that made him act the way he did. Anytime he had any kind of problem he reacted the same way, and usually even worse.

I defended Noah for a long time and for a lot of things. And now that I look back on it I'm a little bit angry about that. I just always assumed that he'd learn from it...from something...from anything, but he never really did. If it was just this one storyline, or even just the first year he was on the show then...fine ( ... )

OK. I'll say it ariadne83 November 2 2010, 11:03:05 UTC
You know what? As a writer I love douchey!Noah. He brings the drama like nobody else LOL

And I won't have to worry about going over the top. He has some of the worst best lines. The range of behaviours that could conceivably be in-character makes me cackle with evil glee.

I kind of agree with this. I may hate the character of Noah, but that doesn't necessarily mean I hate every story he was involved in. As much as it might have hurt to see Luke get constantly emotionally abused like that, it is easier to write a story about conflict than one about harmony, so for that alone, I would say Noah does provide good material for fics.
