From now until December 19th, I'm going to be posting various clips featuring Noah at his most douchetastic. I'm going to say right up front here that any one of these instances could probably be dismissed as understandable and forgivable, brought on by the circumstances, and what have you... but eventually that excuse stops working. Nobody is

But it wasn't just this unique situation that made him act the way he did. Anytime he had any kind of problem he reacted the same way, and usually even worse.
I defended Noah for a long time and for a lot of things. And now that I look back on it I'm a little bit angry about that. I just always assumed that he'd learn from it...from something...from anything, but he never really did. If it was just this one storyline, or even just the first year he was on the show then...fine.
But there's only so many excuses you can go through.
Just because you had a crappy childhood and don't really know how to deal with difficult situations does not mean that you can treat other people like crap for the rest of your life.
Luke had a crappy childhood too. And he certainly makes mistakes all the time because of that, but he always tries to treat people well and with respect and will go above and beyond for anyone he cares about.
(Um I'm ignoring drunk!Luke)

Please don't ignore drunk!Luke! He's awful, but I love him! ;)
I'm teasing. I get what you're saying -- when Luke drinks, he's awful and what you say doesn't apply. I agree. For whatever reason, though, I love the scenes when he falls off the wagon and is a shit to people. I guess because it isn't his default setting and so it feels good, somehow, to see him be a bastard like that. But he's a mean drunk, imo. Definitely a jerk when drunk.
EVEN SO, I LOVE DRUNK!LUKE!!!!
Would have loved to see how Reid would handle an off-the-wagon Luke. I might've written something like that. I might need to figure out what to do with that story.

I agree, it was almost...refreshing to see Luke act like that. Just because he's usually a bit "too nice" about a lot of things.
But in the same way that I forgave Noah for a lot of shit, I forgave Luke for that too. I mean, he got kicked out of school (which threw his whole life off-track), his boyfriend broke up with him, his grandfather kept trying to molest him (LOL)...
But what makes Luke different from Noah is that what he did only lasted for a brief time. And he always felt really terrible about his actions during that time and worked hard in order to get passed it. You may be able to argue that he's not even completely past his issues right now, but he still recognizes that they're there. And if he needs help with it ever, he'd love for the person he loves most in his life to help him.
You should! I'd love to read something like that. I'm not sure what would be horrible enough to get Luke to drink again though (aside from Reid's death, which obviously wouldn't be applicable if Reid is in this fic, haha)

I'm going to have to go over to my friend's apartment to hug her Luke build-a-bear! :p
But really I'm excited!

He really, really did! Probably a lot worse than Noah did, because I got the impression that Winston may have always been strict, but that before he attacked Luke he'd never given Noah any reason to think he was a violent man. I don't think Noah ever had to deal with being kidnapped, and being raised just by a father with no mother may have some downsides, but I doubt any of them are as traumatic as being forced to live through watching your parents break up and make up and break up again 50,000 times.
I don't remember exactly when it was, but I remember one time when Noah said something to Maddie about Luke having really solid, grounded parents, and I just thought... He did? Who are they, and how did Luke end up getting raised by Lily, Holden, and Damian?

No one's life is "perfect" (lol especially on a soap opera).
It really just seemed like Noah's life completley exploded during his first year on the show and I don't think he's really been able to wrap his head around everything or deal with all that happened to him.
I honestly think Noah was just talking about his boyfriend "faux Luke" at the time when he mention Luke having solid parents.
It was like when he first met Luke he fell for him because he was this open, honest person who was really caring and sweet (but still stood up for what he believed in). And he had these seemingly amazing parents and large extended family. All of that was foreign to Noah and it was something that he always craved in his "old movies".
...but then he started to discover that Luke is far from perfect. And it was almost like he got angry any time Luke stepped out of that perfect farm boy image he had of him in his mind. sigh. He would always say things like "Oh I can see the person that I fell in love with come back just then" wtf is that?
Luke totally had it worse though. He was BORN ON A SOAP OPERA! haha there wasn't a moment of HIS ENTIRE EXISTENCE when he wasn't going through some kind of catastrophe! And that's what made the whole "ending" even more sad. Forget about Reid, Luke's entire life has been one horrible thing after another and then they just topped it off with the worst thing that ever happened to him. FUN. lol :(
