I don't know that I see their connection as quite that mystical - certainly they were never part of a prophecy or anything! - but I do think that they way their lives have been shaped and the things they've shared mean they understand each other better than anyone else does or ever could. They've both spent so much time hiding themselves from the world that the chance to be known like that by someone else is both terrifying and incredibly compelling.
Parachute (Kara/Lee, PG-13)embolaliaAugust 13 2012, 17:51:56 UTC
ParachuteThey’re low enough on Vipers that with Kara’s direction, Lee gets sent down in a Raptor to the moon where she crashed, to see if her ship can be salvaged. Instead he finds her parachute, blown clear over a cliff and laying torn on the jagged rocks below. A wave of nausea hits him, so intense he has to turn away and sit down. One more reminder that instead of waiting for him back on Galactica, she could easily be dead right now. It fortifies his resolve
( ... )
Since they are both natural leaders, I think they'd end up organizing and managing a lot of building projects, even if they didn't want to. I don't think Lee would necessarily keep his fingers out of the political pie, but he might act as more of an adviser, eschewing any formal role offered to him.
I can see each of them spending a lot of time alone, like many after so many years of confinement and crowding. I think they'd eventually get together, although not seriously for more than a year or more. And even then, I'd expect it would be rocky (but that's pilots).
