Parachute (Kara/Lee, PG-13) embolalia August 13 2012, 17:51:56 UTC
Parachute

They’re low enough on Vipers that with Kara’s direction, Lee gets sent down in a Raptor to the moon where she crashed, to see if her ship can be salvaged. Instead he finds her parachute, blown clear over a cliff and laying torn on the jagged rocks below. A wave of nausea hits him, so intense he has to turn away and sit down. One more reminder that instead of waiting for him back on Galactica, she could easily be dead right now. It fortifies his resolve.

As soon as he’s back on board, he heads to Sick Bay. Kara’s in bed, her leg in suspension and her face wan, but she grins when she sees him. Lee’s heart aches at the sight. He sits at the edge of the bed, takes her hands. “I want you to know,” he says, quickly so she won’t interrupt, “that I didn’t tell Dad on purpose. I thought he knew. I wasn’t trying--”

Kara’s shaking her head. “It’s better this way, Lee,” she says in a small voice. “Do you have any idea--” She stares at their hands. “I was so scared he’d find out.”

Lee holds on tighter, remembering his terror as he flew over the moon again and again, the way his own suicidal thoughts after Zak’s death had nagged at him. “Did you do it on purpose?” he whispers.

“Hey!” Kara protests, and just the fact that she’s caught off guard makes him grin in relief. “No.”

“Good,” Lee says, meeting her eyes. “Because...” His heart seems to stop as he finally prepares to tell her. “Because I’m not going to make it through this without you, Kara. I don’t want to.”

For a long moment her eyes are wide and unfathomable, and then she blinks and he sees she’s tearing up. She grins through it. “I flew a frakking Raider to get back to you, Adama. Don’t worry, I’m not going anywhere.”

He stares at her, then follows the only reasonable course of action: he kisses her. Soft and tender - she’s still injured - until Kara wraps a hand around his head and deepens the kiss. The energy that’s always been banked between them rises, snapping with electricity. Lee pulls back after a minute, aware that she’s still hurt.

“Hey, I’m not dead here, Apollo,” Kara says, panting, as she sees the worry in his eyes.

A smile spreads across his face. “No. You’re not. We’ve got all the time in the worlds.” There’s a war on outside, and claxons that could ring at any moment, but right then it feels like the only thing that matters. Kara tugs at his shirt, and Lee leans down for another kiss.

Great use of the prompt. How wonderful for them to discuss everything that happened. And to kiss. Kissing is good.
