Shine is gone?! :(

Hi guys! I've been doing no-poo for about 1.5 months. I have thick, medium-length, Asian hair. It used to be super shiny while I was using conventional drugstore shampoos & conditioners with sulfates, but ever since I've been doing no-poo, my hair has been pretty dull. It's soft and I need to wash much less, but the shine is drastically reduced ( Read more... )

would you use the same ratio of lemon juice to water as in the acv mix? also, can I use bottled instead of fresh? My grocery stores lemons mold notoriously fast.

Thank you! I tried lemon juice and a bit of honey with water, and cut down my BS ratio - it was fantastic! My hair was clean, smooth and shiny. Drastic change, it was amazing! Thanks so much :)

One tablespoon baking soda is way too much. It's a common recipe from the days when there was not much information about no-'poo. I have thick waist-length hair and I use one teaspoon baking soda per cup of water!

What you describe sounds like what happened to me when I used too much soda. Your hair should improve in all ways if you adjust your wash recipe. Good luck.

Don't use canola, though; it is extremely toxic, and genetically modified. Coconut oil is one of the best oils for hair; rub on juuust enough to cover your fingertips and finger-comb your hair from the bottom to about halfway up to your scalp. Don't put oil on the scalp area, 'cause sebum should take care of things that high.

Thank you! I cut down on my baking soda and that's definitely been a HUGE improvement. I'll also check out coconut oil - I've been looking into that! Thanks so much! :)
