Account creation:When creating a new account you're no longer asked to choose an account level. You're only asked if you want to upgrade to a paid account. It is not mentioned anywhere that you can have a free and advertising-free account.

Shouldn't there have been...oh, I don't know...a WARNING?

Or am I really so busy I missed it?

Grrr.

No, no warning. Only mentioning that they "streamlined" the registration process. I guess allowing an ad free option was just too confusing.

Guess I'll have no qualms about telling new people to use Adblock if they can't/don't want to get a paid account anymore, then.

The page I see when I click the link doesn't include that text (or anything to that effect) at all.

I can still see it even I'm logged out/have cleared my cache so eh?

Here's a screencap, just in case:

That's not what I see at all, and I cleared my cache and everything just in case. Weird!

Thanks for the screencap, though.

Brad promised that we would never be forced to see ads.

And so we are not.

Those new guys, though...they have to see ads or pay.

Remember that we (non-paid/permanent users) do still see adverts on various "official" pages and on plus accounts (which will obviously be increasing in number now...)

And basic users see "sponsored content," a useless distinction.

Including those signing up just to comment because it's easier, or vote in my polls.

I was planning on doing a push amongst my non-account-holding readers to get them to sign up so I can keep track of them (because OpenID isn't good enough and I doubt they're going to take it out of alpha on LJ for ages). Don't think I will now.

Re: 2nd edit - Hmm. Well, the FAQ does say accounts created "after" March 12 and not "on", so maybe that's why? I bet accounts created tomorrow won't be able to switch.

Oh yeah different time zone here! It's already the 13th. Will add this.

Nope, today you can't create Basic accounts (it's only 9 pm Central time, so it's still March 12th in California!). They have to have been created before March 12th, you know, before anyone found out about it?

Yeah, I know you can't create Basic accounts today. I was actually referring to uniquewonders's 2nd post edit, though - she was able to switch over some accounts that were created earlier today.
