The end of Basic accounts 0_o

Account creation:When creating a new account you're no longer asked to choose an account level. You're only asked if you want to upgrade to a paid account. It is not mentioned anywhere that you can have a free and advertising-free account.

Brad promised that we would never be forced to see ads.

And so we are not.

Those new guys, though...they have to see ads or pay.

Remember that we (non-paid/permanent users) do still see adverts on various "official" pages and on plus accounts (which will obviously be increasing in number now...)

Including those signing up just to comment because it's easier, or vote in my polls.

I was planning on doing a push amongst my non-account-holding readers to get them to sign up so I can keep track of them (because OpenID isn't good enough and I doubt they're going to take it out of alpha on LJ for ages). Don't think I will now.

I gave up on OpenID when they suspended mine with no warning. And I won't even get into why I believe it happened.
