X-posted from ataniell93.

There have been a number of posts about how annoying Snap Shots are here in this comm, so I'm x-posting from my journal. You can turn them off in your own journal, but they still show up on your friends lists, much like that stupid navigation strip. Or that annoying "contextual hover menu".

HERE are your instructions on how to ( Read more... )

possibly also because their new "partner", Snap.com, didn't want certain types of material on their servers.

That doesn't make any sense. If Snap.com doesn't want a particular screenshot of a site on its servers, it doesn't have to have to have it, since they create all of the shots there. Nobody can upload material there they don't want.

Doesn't snap show a graphic preview of any link you link to?

Yes. But they themselves have to create the preview by crawling the web and making the little graphics. If they didn't want the graphical preview of a particular site on their servers, they could easily choose not to make it or host it

By the way, you can make the stupid navigation strip go away using the "livejournal kill navbar" Greasemonkey script found at userscripts.org.

We do have an entire guide on killing the Navstrip--CSS methods are preferred over Greasemonkey, since there's no extra JavaScript to execute.

Incidentally, I really recommend AdMuncher. I know paying for software isn't fashionable at the moment, but it's a great program, and because it covers all the browsers you use, snap and other irritations can be eliminated very efficiently by adding one filter.

I just close the 'snap' for one evening in the options though the next day it's back (I'm using an older IE). Works for me at the moment.
