There have been a number of posts about how annoying Snap Shots are here in this comm, so I'm x-posting from my journal. You can turn them off in your own journal, but they still show up on your friends lists, much like that stupid navigation strip. Or that annoying "contextual hover menu".

That doesn't make any sense. If Snap.com doesn't want a particular screenshot of a site on its servers, it doesn't have to have to have it, since they create all of the shots there. Nobody can upload material there they don't want.

Images of most sites will already be in our system. If not, Snap will automatically generate a preview image. The process for each image begins when someone rolls his or her cursor over the link. Usually the images are created in under 30 seconds, but there can be a delay if there are a lot of pages in the queue.
When someone rolls over a Snap Shot-enabled link for the first time, Snap takes a picture of the linked-to Web page so the image can be displayed in the preview bubble.
It is possible to prevent snap.com from generating a preview of your site.
