winniewong states in rt #1731 that "Free Accounts" are now "Basic Accounts" because "Sponsored+ Accounts" are also "free."

this can be seen on create.bmlBasic (Free) Accounts are "free" because you don't have to pay money to use it. you do however "pay" when you visit a Sponsored+ Account's journal or bml pages that are within Sponsored+ "journal space" ( Read more... )

Mmm, they need to change the label on the "Most Popular Features" chart.

...and I know that there's probably a gazillion pages where the label needs to be changed and hasn't yet, but just for each page being internally coherent.

yup, did notice that change.

not as important, imo, but definitely related.

i'm pretty sure they're going to stick with Sponsored+.

thanks! :D

I changed it to "Premium Features" only becaues it'd be lame to have "Paid-user-Only Features" and "Paid and Sponsored+ Features"; we debated that quite a bit to figure out what the best way to do that would be, since our FAQ system doesn't scale very well and I didn't want to make things bulkier than they needed to be. ;P

Did they change that officially, or is it just being proposed?

winniewong's comment says that everything of "Free Account" is to be changed to "Basic Account."

if it says it on the account creation page, i think it's pretty well-set.

I'm not bothered by the fact that both are labelled free. The idea is to contrast subscribing for a monthly fee vs not paying anything and that's okay with me. But "basic"? Hmmm. Not very flattering if you consider all the features free accounts have. Now you no longer have a free account, you have a lame basic account.

Can you think of a better name? ;P

Believe it or not I've been trying to think of one but considering that 1) English isn't my native language 2) I'm not in the advertising industry I came up with unsatisfactory adjectives like 'simple', 'elementary', 'classic', 'standard' or my personal favorite 'quintessential' *lol*. 'Classic' is not that bad all things considered. But then it makes me want to rename the other two..

"classic" is used with the layouts. i think we should steer clear of overloading more terms.
but "basic" does have that "sub-par" feeling to it. but once they see that "sponsored+" is ad-supported, they'll think about that part. some people like ads, some people don't.

Hey baby, are there any guide/info posts we should retroactively go back and correct to have the new names? Like the features chart, etc?

"Free" -> "Basic" fo' sho'.

is "Paid" really "Premium" now? i think it's just "Premium Features."
