You're awesome, I love you.

You hit the nail on the head. Jensen is gorgeous and yeah, ridiculously pretty but in a frigging manly way! He's not effeminate and it gets awkward and uncomfortable when those kind of things are implied in the show especially when Dean is...well...Dean wouldn't take that shit.

*huggles* I love your rant xD

Some time today I may pluck up the courage to watch this weeks episode. Not convinced I'm going to like it...

<3 Right back atcha'.

:nods enthusiastically: I have nothing to add, that's pretty much it and why I had to rant about it a lil'.

Sometimes I feel all I do is rant, I need to balance these things out with something less aggravating. xD

And I already know how that turned out, sorry about that bb. :hugs:

Interesting rant, but I disagree. I dont think pretty and handsome are gender restricted like they used to be, and are pretty much interchangeable, and I think demanding words be gender specific is a step backwards. It means he has symmetrical features, that's about it. Pretty =/= delicate flower. Handsome =/= rugged man. Sorry, but gender stereotyping like that bothers me.

Even saying that, pretty fit the context. It wasnt like the vamps were planning on keeping Dean as this rugged looking guy, they were going to make him dress all emo like the rest, and act all Edward Cullen-y. So if he was using the term in a gender stereotypical setting, he would want someone pretty not handsome, and if Dean dressed a certain way that could apply to him.

I don't think that those terms are as recognized as interchangeable today and I certainly never got the impression from the show that they saw it as such ('no chick flick moments' and other degrading comments, from Dean specifically, that suggest womanly behavior = bad). The show and entertainment in general continue to have very gender restricted views with terms like 'pretty' and 'handsome' and the like and so the context where they are used are meant to be taken as such. Hopefully, someday soon, that will all change. I'd like that. And I see it in fic and online and sometimes with certain things I might watch or read but it's not yet as widespread as I would like. So, when Dean is called 'pretty' or 'delicate' in the context that he was I get the impression, like I feel was intended, it was meant to be emasculating and degrading to him by a widespread stereotype that men are supposed to be manly and that bothered me.

I HAVE MISSED YOU BB! YOU LEAVE US FOR TOO LONG! D: *TACKLE!HUGS*

LOL I love your rants. I dont really agree though, the "pretty" comment fit, imo, and it didnt really bother me cuz ~pretty isnt exclusive to a gender and I am against conventionalizing words and titles and all other shit like that. Honestly, the adjective I use the most for Jensen is "beautiful", (and 'pretty' of course) but that doesnt take away anything from the fact that I think he is ALL MAN!

However, I can sense the show toning down Dean's masculinity and RAWR-ness. Its one of my biggest fear about S6, them emasculating Dean, and there are instances when its becomes very evident that Sera is deliberately taking away from Dean (and giving to Sam) what made him appealing. Its not the same thing at all, but I think according to the show, domesticated = ball-less. Which just makes me weep for Dean! D:

I'M SORWY, I STILL LUFF YOU THOUGH BB, I'LL TRY TO MAKE IT UP TO YOU SOON. <3 :CLINGS TIGHTLY:

Hee, yeah I commented on others to make clear that I don't fell the word 'pretty' should be gender specific ether but the context it was used, imo, was purposefully emasculating. Jensen is ALL MAN but is also VERY PRETTY so he's a PRETTY MAN and such but unfortunately the Show, and most entertainment right now, don't have the same open unrestricted view on adjectives and they do tend to conventionalize words and titles. So when Dean is called pretty or delicately featured it's impressed upon that it's a 'bad' and 'weak' thing, basically erasing that MAN part in PRETTY MAN.

That's my biggest fear right now with s6: Sera holding Dean's balls hostage. Dean was very rougish, the Han Solo and it feels like Sera's bypassing those quirks in his character that added to his appeal for what she feels domestic men are like. Weak, soft etc. Which isn't true even though I don't like Domestic!Dean.

The context in which they were used, for me, was emasculating. I love how Dean comes off, sexually, non-gender complaint but to me he has always been 100% man. What that entails I can't really say but I don't think it's all stereotype I just think it's...manly. He cries and does other things that wouldn't fit into a redneck stereotype of how a man should act and I adore that because it makes him a better character and a fuller person and more likable but in the end he's still a man and I'm not cool with the context that suggest he was any less.

do you know how much I love this post?! like this much *stretches arms*

I do not really need to add my 2 cents.. but I will.
because you said it all. the "pretty' comment. i was like "uhh? did he just call him... pretty?! wtf?"
Dean + Pretty do not belong in the same sentance.
pretty is what a mother tells their 13 year old girl wearing makeup for the first time.

Dean is Sexy. period. (and on the occasion, when the light hits his eyes just that prefect way.. he is stunningly Beautiful *s*)

... )

You know how much I love you? THIIIIIIIIIIIIIIS MUCH ♥ :stretches arms wider:

<3

That is exactly how the word is used contextually in modern entertainment and until that changes that's exactly how it's meant to be received when in the Show.
~Stunningly Beautiful~ is exactly how Dean should be called from now on. But I really wouldn't have had a problem if that's what Dean was called. I would have laughed pretty hard though. xD

Aw, to tell you the truth I don't even know what I think about this most recent episode. It's all very confusing. But I think I'll slide in some opinion of a scene or two in the next spam post I do when I get off of work tomorrow. Having work and family and school has made me so behind in my lovely internet!life. :c
