Random stuff this weekend

This Saturday at The Black Cat: Special Midnight Screening of "Heavy Metal Parking Lot" w/ performances by Nitro Tokyo, Death By Sexy, and DJ Dribble spinning between sets (Plus meet the filmmakers after the movie!) $9 on the mainstage, 9pm.

Hopefully not shooting myself in the foot by mentioning this for scherzoid and any experimental electronic music

Seeing Perfume tonight; it looks lovely.

I read the book that Notes on a Scandal was based on this fall without having any inkling that a movie was in the works; it was just an interesting title on the library shelf. I'm hopeful; it was a good book.

Ooh definitely let me know how you like it! It got mixed reviews but it seems like my kind of movie, and the trailer had an interesting Illusionist-mitai feel to it.

D. and I saw "Notes From a Scandal" last weekend and were much impressed. It was very disturbing to see Judi Dench as an out of touch, manipulative villian. Some of the scenes with Cate Blanchett were disturbing, but they were meant to be - great performances all around.

We were going to see Perfume...but since we were late to the theater, we saw Notes on a Scandal instead, and I was far from impressed. Not by the actors; they did an excellent job--but they took what was a lovely book and took all of the subtlety out of it. It was a much better story before they decided that an old lonely woman desperate for friendship wasn't interesting enough and turned her into a manipulative and deluded closeted lesbian. I was furious. It wasn't even *interesting* homoerotic tension.
