I took the weekend off from writing to rediscover how bad I am at inking. My big bang is due on Friday and I am going to have to make some questionable decisions on how to handle the background and text without digital means

I am so unspeakably bad at inking I cannot even tell you. You'd think it would be easy. Inkers get no love cause they're basically glorified tracers, right? Yeah, NO. D:

I am determined to learn though, I've been devouring comic books lately and going "but how did they DO that?"

INKING IS BALLS.

Every time I try I start realizing just how shitty I am at determining light sources and being consistent throughout a piece :/ BAD ARTIST. Bad, bad, bad artist.

Why can't everything just be lines? XD

One of the reasons I liked playing with the digital and tablet was I could have a bunch of different inking layers and try new things, which is harder to do traditionally (although I am cheating with photocopies of my line art and roughed in light studies, but ONE SLIP of my hand can ruin the whole piece)

But yes! Comics! Dave McKean is LOVE. Mike Mignola is LOVE. Ryan Ottley is LOVE. (also, also jou, and latenightarting and EVERYBODY BUT ME! *dies melodramatically*

ETA: Maybe I need to try inking something I didn't draw. That's the way it's usually done in comics books right? I probably just can't look at my stuff objectively enough. That or I need to quit art cause damn.
