Poor Pania (A Compaq Presario CQsomething laptop).

Her fan has been sounding horribly noisy lately, so much so that we had to turn the TV up to drown it out (I may be exaggerating, but only slightly). So eggwhite got some compressed air and carefully blew out the dust on the fan. Turns out this was a mistake. The fan was probably being held together ( Read more... )

If it helps my computer is a Compaq Presario something-62, and I needed to replace the fan earlier this year because I was getting complaints on Skype that it sounded like an airplane taking off. Only cost me about NZ$100 for part and labour, which was worth it to me. So quiet now!

Like you I was going to try taking the bottom off to get to the fan, but then the instructions I read said I need to go down through the keyboard, so...nope.

Well, that's good to know. I didn't have the skype complaints (but the video wasn't very good). We will go down to a computer store and see what they say. I'd like to defer the cost of a new laptop for a few months (though I am enjoying using this newer one...).

I believe the tradition is supposed to be two small screws...
