I am jealous, I miss Germany. I am confident that I could make my way around. Lots of guys speak english. The way I got around was ask was ist das auf English. Or Ish versthensie kine deutch or I just gave up and went to KFC or Burger King or McDonalds. Glad to hear you are doing well. Enjoy your visit. Alles Gut! Bis-Spader!

I meant to say that I know exactly how you feel not being confident in speaking. You have an advantage you are better looking than I so you will get a pass on your german. Be careful though German guys are aggressive when it comes to meeting. And people will ask you if a seat at your table is empty and sit there and eat with you. Babies are sometimes left outside in the stroller so don't be alarmed when you see that.

I made friends over there that got me out of my shell when it came to speaking. They always corrected me and I would make sure I was saying it right. They love it when people visit Germany and try to speak the language. Heck get you a cute guy to show you around while you are there. (easier said than done, I know)

I still can't spell in german neither english for that matter, but oh well.

Take pics and post them on your journal. I would like to see the sights. :)

Thanks for your note. I just realized my entry is a little misleading... I got back from Germany last Wednesday (Dec. 1). The journal entry was transcribed from what I'd handwritten in an 'old school' journal while having dinner my first full day in Berlin :)

It was wonderful. The trip wasn't very long, but I'll take what I can get/afford. It was a full five days in Berlin; seven days if you count all the time I spent in airplanes. Jetlag really does a number on me! I guess it happens 'with age.'

I remember what it was like flying from frankfurt to Alabama and vice versa. The nine hours difference really messes you up. I used to take a couple of extra days to sleep.

I think it sounds like a lot of fun. I'd like to travel more, but I never have the courage to travel alone. So good job you!

Thanks! There are certainly some limitations when you travel alone, esp. as a woman. Berlin is pretty safe, fortunately, but my hotel was kind of in the boon docks of southeastern Berlin. And one of the reasons I felt comfortable going to Berlin was b/c I'd visited before and sort of knew my way around. A lot of people speak English too, so that's helpful.

As it turned out, I had overlap on the trip with this woman from NYC I 'knew' through the Neubauten message boards, and we met up on a couple of occasions. So I wasn't *completely* alone. And this part is just too cool but DID actually happen: at a restaurant/bar called White Trash, we ran into Alex Hacke of Neubauten and his g-friend, the artist Danielle de Picciotto (who also interviewed both of us for the tour video). They said they'd call us and invite us to lunch a day or so later, and they actually DID, so we had lunch with them at a nice little restaurant! That's the benefit of being a fan of a comparatively obscure band, I guess. I will write about it soon!
