I'm trying to figure out why I like Fiona Apple so much...

I mean, she's not the usual music I listen to. She seems to be a jazzy version of Sarah McLachlan... I'm not a huge version of jazz, though.

I don't have much stuff by her, but I do like her voice and the musical arrangements of her songs. I'm still giggling over NIN, Sarah and Gregorian chants. I can do the first two but the third...not so much. Of course, this is the woman who loads up Sarah, NIN, Disturbed, Godsmack, Queen Latifah, and Bollywood on her MP3 player. The Welshman is almost as quirky and eclectic as I am.

When I hear a new song that I can't identify but I like, I memorize a line from it, go into the nearest record store, pick out the youngest sales associate, quote the line to him/her, and ask what the song is. They can usually tell me.

The Virgin Megastore is where I found Dalida, in the ethnic section...

But the young and trendy are usually kind to me as a middle-aged woman who likes their music (and can never reach their hotness), so I usually find what I like.
