I'm trying to figure out why I like
Fiona Apple so much...
I mean, she's not the usual music I listen to. She seems to be a jazzy version of Sarah McLachlan... I'm not a huge version of jazz, though.
I think some of it may be because when I was working front desk, my manager (
Ithildyn's mom, actually), approved Fiona Apple for me to listen to while I was working. One of three, actually (The only other non-instrumental I could listen to was Sarah McLachlan and Enya). But, I can't remember why I bought her first CD... it was a decade or more ago, so I couldn't have heard samples of it on the 'net, it wasn't feasible back then, in the mists of time. My download speed when I was in that job was 14.4... Damn, the memories!
And, the song "Slow Like Honey" is a PWP in song form. Hell, I have a partial story on a harddrive that is based on that song! Why is it a partial story? It's smut, and I don't write smut well...
Maybe it was the eyes? She has 'freaky' eyes like me... Maybe I tried her first CD because of that?
But, she isn't my 'usual' music.
Ok... Ok... Granted, I'm eclectic to the extreme. I once bought a Nine Inch Nails CD, Sarah McLachlan CD, and Gregorian Chant CD at the same time. The cashier thought it was great I was buying gifts. I had to dissuade him. The wide eyes he gave me made me laugh.
I just put the one CD and two singles of hers I don't own in my iTunes shopping cart. So, next time I buy music, I'll own everything she's done to date!
So, I don't know why I stared to listen to Fiona Apple, but I do... She has a great smoky voice, and her arrangements are quite evocative...
