I wasn't particularly excited by 'The Banquet'. It was a bit of a let down. Not a bad movie, but a little draggy and wasn't as good as I had expected/hoped. This one, though, I am more optimistic about. Supposed to be released in December 2006, in Asia at least :p The same director and creative team of 'Hero' and 'House of Flying Daggers ( Read more... )

As a classics gal, I'm very much looking foward to 300. It'll be entertaining I'm sure (yes sad, as nari said, but a very heroic event it was). It'll also be interesting to see how accurate it is (which even if it isn't, won't affect too much my enjoyment because I try to separate the two).

Have you seen the 1960's version...I think it's called "300 Spartans"? It's hilarious because they make a random raid on the Persian camp, and are talking about "saving Greece" and "united Greece." Ha! Very American thought I think with all the talk of "freedom" and "unity" because actually there was no united Greece, only city-states working together when it was to their advantage.

But again my enjoyment of a movie doesn't necessarily mean it has to be historically accurate (examples: the very freely adapted Gladiator and Troy)

Saving Greece... LOL!

I am more interested in the battle strategies, fighting sequences, costumes and props :D

Yes, actually Troy's problem was this: scenery and props from every era. :p

Also, I am not familiar with this graphic novel so it'll be cool to see the story from that aspect.

Went to see curse of the golden flower in singapore. It was a good film but it drags on for a bit at the start and doesnt really get going till half way through the film. So take plenty of popcorn and snacks :) The costumes and fighting scenes are a must see :)

Well I missed it when it was in Singapore and goodness knows when it'll be out in the UK :p I noted that the DVD is now out in Singapore though! Maybe I should just get that heh... But for cinematography and choreography like that, it's got to be seen on the big screen.
