V-Day, Lost, and Vid Rec

Wow - I detested this week's Lost! I wasn't at all invested in Desmond and his time-traveling adventures. Seemed to me like a failed attempt to recapture the creepy, sci-fi roots that have been missing since the hatch was opened.

Maybe you can change my mind. What was it that you liked so much? Spare no detail. ;)

You're not alone! Apparently lots of people were ticked off. Do you read cynthia_arrow? She did a great recap, including screencaps, of why she liked it. Of course, she's a Desmond fan :)

First of all, as I kind of said earlier, I just plain like seeing new characters. I think Lost writers excel at creating characters, but fall down a bit when it comes time to advance them. Not a *lot* - it's still quality television. They're just not as strong in that area, so I like seeing them working with their strengths. Part of me thinks that's why they keep killing people off - they can't think of what to do next.

I thought it was creepy and sci-fi, actually, but mostly during the scene with the old lady in the jewelry shop. The theme of destiny and its possibilities has always been strong in this show, and it was nice to see that explored by someone *besides* Locke ( ... )
