Morning drive musings. Yay. :)

I was reminded today, while listening to Grieg's Piano Concerto in A in my car on the way to work, that I owe my love for (and, admittedly, obsession with) classical music and the cello to...the flamboyant and much-mocked Liberace. Yes, it's true. Had I never heard Liberace play bits of the Grieg concerto on TV, I ( Read more... )

Interesting story. My dad did (and does) like classical, so my way of being exposed to it was a bit more conventional. ;)

Well, you're lucky then. I fear I might have found myself stuck in the 50s if I'd had to stick with my parents' musical tastes. :p

Yah... my parents were the ones who got me interested in classical music too. (as well as Bugs Bunny, the Smurfs, and Fantasia.. ;p)

Ahhhh, Fantasia. I didn't see that until I was 10 or so, so the classical obsession was already firmly in force by then. :) But, like I said to Devi, you're lucky that you didn't have anti-classical parents. I had to come by my obsession the hard way. ;)

*nods* My husband discovered it more along the way you did too. A class he took in high school featured classical music, and through doing some research on it.. he came to enjoy the genre. He is also a big fan of cello and strings.

I'm more partial to orchestra type works, but I'll listen to string quartets and cello music too. The screechy/hyper violin musics gets on my nerves though. ^^

Violins are evil, evil, evil. Screechy, indeed. Try having a beginning violinist in the house. :) Thank goodness he practices when I'm not home... No, I'm kidding. Josiah's actually quite good for a beginner. He rarely screeches, and plays notes in tune more often than not. But yeah, I'm not too fond of violins, m'self.

And you and Brad have good taste, since you like cello music. ;)

Ooo... classical MIDI. *yoinks for huge MIDI collection*

I honestly have no memory of how or why I have such an eclectic taste in music. There's everything in my collection from classical (Rachmaninov's a fave) through Celtic new age and country on to rock and hip-hop.

I just can't stand rap or bluegrass country. For me at least, there must be a tune and the singer must be making an attempt to be in tune. :)

And her favorite singers were Pat Boone, Johnny Mathis, Perry Como, Nat King Cole, etc.

Nothing wrong with Nat King Cole. ;)
