I'm so slow; I thought you were still planning the road trip and had no idea you were actually on the road!
Here's my take on religiosity vs spirituality. I actually had to cut most of my reply out because it was far too long and rambly. It still turned out pretty rambly.
To me, being religious means that you have chosen to live your life by the rules and moral codes of a particular religious denomination. If you are a Baptist, then you live a Baptist lifestyle. If something is forbidden in that sect, then you can't do it. If something is required, then you must do it. Being spiritual is much more open -- it means that you believe in something. Maybe not God, but something else. A general higher power, mother earth/nature, karma, fate, gut feelings or women's intuition, aliens from outer space*... I think that humans by nature are spiritual beings, and that we tend to gravitate towards spirituality to some degree (although many do not).
Many people who are religious are also spiritual, but here are religious people who aren't

Its 3am, but that sounds like a good answer. (o: Did I pretty much say that?
Yup, I thought I mentioned something about being in Boston or New England. Something about it being ridiculously hot for that area or seeing the Red Sox play, or something
I would say there's a difference. Religious I feel is specific to a certain type of spiritual worship whereas spiritual itself does not denote a belief in any one thing in particular. I think that makes sense. Anyway, I'd say that all religious people are spiritual, but not all spiritual people are religious.
I think being religious is different from being spiritual. They could be the same for some who truly believe AND practice religious teachings. I think spiritual is something that is more an inner belief or an inner peace--a time for reflection. People can be spiritual but not necessarily be religious. I think religion is a way to guide people to find inner peace and connect with his/her own spiritual side.
Are you still on your roadtrip? One of my friends invited me on a roadtrip to New Mexico the end of June but I passed b/c I'm really not too good with long car trips. I wish I was b/c it sounds like fun and I'm sure you really experience a lot.
