obstacles in getting to Australia

Apr 16, 2010 21:52

two things that are getting in the way of getting ready to go to Australia:

#1 money

the root of all evil that is money is always making things hard for me. :( but i guess that this time it's really my own fault for having not saved a yen before now...

i managed to keep this part short )

australia, money, wtf, work, jet program, moving, meh

Money issue:
I had the same problem when I came to Japan on my Working Holiday Visa actually. I just graduated from university, there was no way I could afford 2000+€ back then. A trick that other people also used is that my father transfered some money to my bank account, so when they checked it, I had enough money and once I was in Japan an started my job I transfered it back to my dad's. Would that be an option?

About the flight all I can say is WTF??!!!
Why the hell to they care???? *headdesk*

sadly none of my family members has that kind of money that they can spare and i wouldn't ask anyone else for something like that. :[

Yeah, I distinctly remember that rule - that they will ONLY buy you a plane ticket back to the place you flew in from.... which is not always very convenient but I guess that is their disclaimer so that you don't go on some kind of crazy international tour on their dime? I really don't get it myself either. But I don't think you can get them to budge on it.... however it is ridiculous that they then need to find out if it is ok for you to pay for your own ticket elsewhere.

yeah, i was just being optimistic in hoping that they would budge for the money. :/

i've thought about that but i worry that along with all the other new things that have happened this year, the BOE might ask for the receipt for the ticket purchase... so even if i actually bought the ticket, i wouldn't be able to refund it without the receipt.

and yeah, there is the coming-to-the-airport thing. -_-;

which reminds me, i hope B and Ushi get by ok.

i'd suggest telling t-san that you're taking the overnight bus to Osaka/Tokyo so she can't take you to the airport.

as for the receipt - ask the travel agency for two of them and give one to t-san and refund the other - or if that doesn't work, give t-san a copy and keep the original (after all, you should keep the original receipt).

this rule that they have to send you back where you came from is really frustrating - it's like your life stopped when you came to japan and begins again when you go back. ugh.

good luck with whatever you decide. if all else fails, I'd make them buy a ticket and then not show up . . .

--and as long as B can get drugs for Ushi, everything will be fine ;)

overnight bus would be great except that the BOE is still responsible for and willing to fly me to an international airport from Kochi. i doubt they'd be ok with paying for an overnight bus ticket. :/

that's a good idea about getting two receipts. :) i may try that...

and yeah, i wish they (JET, BOE, whoever) would realize that some of us really have no reason to go back to where we came from once we leave...

is there no way that you can graciously accept their ticket and then go to the airline and ask about exchanging it? (i've never really traveled on my own, so i've never had to deal with booking flights so idk if this is not do-able especially since you didn't purchace the ticket in the first place or even if they'll give you your ticket far enough in advance to make this possible.) If you could do that, you'd get to go where you want to and get some cash back. T-san can feel like she's doing her job to the letter and everyone wins.

best of luck

i've thought about that... oh how i would love the satisfaction of that if it worked. 8) but there are so many risks involved that even the potential satisfaction isn't enough to make me try anymore...

thanks for the thought though. :)

Get the ticket to America, get the receipt, then get them to pay for it. Then cancel the ticket, and buy one to Australia with the money they put in your account. Easy peasy.

Yes, lots of people do this. I ended up just getting the money because I printed off the schedule and rates of a flight off the internet and told them I was going to book it once I had the money, and then just never did. I had no contact with them after I turned in my apartment keys on my last day, so they never found out, and probably didn't care enough to find out.
