and currently into The Avengers (and nursing a serious crush on Jeremy Renner). Anyone know of any good Avengers fic? Gen fic or Hawkeye/Black Widow? Suggestions appreciated. I'm having a hard time sorting thru the sludge at the Pit of Voles.

*shudder* I'm in the fanfiction rants comm here on LJ, and all I've found being ranted there has persuaded me to avoid any and all fanfiction not written by people I already know.

Yeah I've noticed little decent LOTR fic being posted. Maybe The Hobbit will bring the good authors back out of the cobwebs?

Try over at AO3. I don't read much Avengers but I did find an amazing Loki-Thor AU (though it's also on the slashy side iirc, so...) But still, there is *solid* world-building going on it. Published authors should do so well. (ok, snark over.) Also, you might check at epic_recs for suggestions.

Yay for Avengers! I'm hugely into the fandom myself at the moment. Though, heh, yeeeah, so hear you on the difficulties of wading through the sludge. :P I'd second what samtyr said about AO3 being a good place to check - there seems to be a much higher overall proportion of decent stories there.

And, if I may rec my own community... XD My sister and I actually just started an Avengers gen prompting community - http://avengersgen.livejournal.com/profile - which might be of interest if you're inclined to request the sort of stories you'd be interested in. There's also a post there with a rec list of some of the good gen fic out there that we've found. Hardly exhaustive, but might be a good place to start. ^^

And ooo, awesome! This'd be Clint/Natasha romance I'm guessing, based on your fic preferences? Normally I'm a gen girl all the way, but there are a few pairings I like well enough to sometimes read lighter romance stories for... and as it happens, Clint/Natasha is definitely something I can ship. *g*
