"It is not surprising that 20th Century Fox slapped an embargo on critics at Monday evening’s world-first screening of Australia. They knew they were sitting on dynamite - a film of such unrelenting awfulness that it will struggle to return its massive budget." - Mark Naglazas.

Ouch.

I read that this morning. That guy's main argument seems to be that the environments weren't "authentic" enough and that too many special effects were used. Seriously, though, who cares about authenticity? It's a completely fictional love story - authenticity doesn't come into it.

Besides, I love special effects (unless, of course, they're so bad that you can see a distinct outline around the actors where the blue screen was used). This guy just sounds like a party pooper.

Eh, having bought every issue of Empire ever, I generally trust their reviews more than the bitter critics that usually make up the SMH etc.

But have you seen it yet, Nic? I never understand your reliance on critics. They have terrible taste, and are generally bad-tempered.

Critics know their shit. When taken on aggregate the bitter or fanboy views of a minority are diluted to the point where an accurate assessment can be drawn.

Pfft. I'll watch it just to see Hugh Jackman running around and getting sweaty.

Bummer! But that was the feeling I was starting to get from the commercials that recently started airing. I was initially excited by the initial trailer for the movie, a huge epic movie from Baz Luhrman, but the new commercials seem to put it more on par with Michael Bay's "Pearl Harbor". Just so long as it can remain better than that film, I'll be happy.

Yeah, I was thinking "Pearl Harbor" from the ads screening in NYC, too...

Just before I thought, "Avoid."
