That was the one thing that really pissed me off about applying for financial aid back when. My parents weren't well off but we werent poor. Stuck in the middle so yeah, they assumed my parents would pay for part of it. I never had a fund. I paid my first year with scholarships and then I worked the rest of it. I couldn't get any more student loans because they said I used up my allotment for it. LAME I have no idea though at this point what it would look like now if I tried to get money to go back to school (which is looking like I might actually HAVE to do that to get any sort of job now days)
I didn't have a college fund set up for me. I don't have them for my kids, either (and it's Kyle's senior year of high school this year). I've been warning them since before middle school that I will NOT be able to pay for their college. There is no reason why they can't get scholarships (they were warned ahead of time....with enough emphasis to realize how important their grades will be).
If they can't get it together for scholarships, they will be saddled with student loans. They had enough warning.
The twins, however, are planning on going into the military. I'll need a Xanax fund for that.
My parents didn't have a fund for me. My dad however did pay for one summer quarter of tuition back when I was at the community college ($950). The rest has been covered by loans or out of our pocket. Luckily the last 3 years I had Carl paying the bills...he insisted I go full-time and we budgeted like hell at first to make it work). I couldn't have finished as quickly if I didn't have his help.
yeah, you guys definitely made a lot of sacrifices to get to where you are. i remember how much you cut your expenses and everything down to allow you to go to school and not have a ton of debt.
Heh, I have more debt than I'd like. I'm actively looking for a job now, and we plan on keeping expenses down for another year or so while I push 50+% of my income towards paying down/off my loans.
