I paid my own way. I applied for and got an unusual number of scholarships in high school. I also attended a state college. And I think my mom gave me some money monthly that her mom had provided to her for my education, but it wasn't much. Finally, I had a job at school (delivering the school newspaper 90 miles each week by car), and I got a paid internship as a senior. Oh yeah I also got college credits in high school through the AP program. Plus I was frugal throughout college.
I'm torn on the whole issue. I had to pay for some of the college costs myself, with my mom's help. However, even though she's a single parent who made not very much money at all, my financial aid bottomed out and I got into quite a bit of debt, as well as working to try and save money for tuition, as well as paying for my own living costs. So I'm a bit bitter. I think I would have enjoyed and appreciated college a lot more if I didn't have to work through it - my GPA wasn't as high as it could have been and I wasn't able to take unpaid internships or many of the classes I wanted to because I had to use up most of my spare time to make money. And now I have to work a job that I hate because I'm in debt, thanks to my education
