Her office door opened without a warning knock and Jenny didn't need to look up to know who was disturbing the privacy she'd ask for hours ago, when she'd ordered Cynthia to send everyone away; except for cases of emergency.
Up until a few seconds ago this arrangement had worked without problems, but Jenny should've known that she couldn't hide in here forever. Sooner or later, someone would overpower Cynthia and, somehow, Jenny had known this someone would be Jethro.
Closing the case file in front of her, Jenny looked up.
"Jethro," she said, walking around the desk as her closed the door. He looked unusually insecure and nervous, and something inside of her screamed 'alarm'.
What had he done this time?
"What's wrong?" she asked, afraid of whatever answer he'd have.
"Wrong?" he asked. "Nothing's wrong, Jen. Why?"
"I don't know, Jethro … You look like something happened and I feel that I won't like whatever it is you've done this time."
"I didn't do anything." Jethro's lips curled up into a smirk and the intense look in his blue eyes send shivers down Jenny's spin. She hated when he did this; catching her off guard and in a way she never expected.
"So why are you here?" she asked, not believing a word Jethro had said. She'd learned to always expect the worse when he was around; but when he suddenly moved closer grabbing both her shoulders to keep her from backing away, and then pressed his lips on hers, demanding but at the same time soft and tender, Jenny didn't know how to feel about this encounter.
They hadn't been this close for years and although she regretted how everything had ended, she'd accepted that things were over between them. And now he here, kissing her like the last years never happened …
This was wrong. But it felt so right.
Jenny closed her eyes, giving in to his kiss and for the first time in years every muscles in her body seemed to relax. She wrapped her arms around Jethro's neck and pressed her body against his, only then realizing how she'd missed all this. She wished time would stop and they could do this for ever …
Suddenly, someone opened the door, storming into the office.
Jenny startled. Confused, she looked around, wondering where she was and what had just happened, but when her brain had finally processed all information and she realized that she must've fallen asleep, she relaxed.
"Jethro," she said, an amused smile on her face, and from the way he looked at her she could see that he'd not expected such a warm welcome. He was obviously nervous.
"What's wrong, Jethro?" she asked, alarmed, but Jethro didn't answer. Instead, he stepped closer, his eyes searching hers.
This whole situation felt so familiar. Recalling what had happened next in her dream, Jenny felt herself blushing, and she was glad that Jethro wasn't that good in reading her anymore.
Or was he? Why was he smiling?
