Having meetings regarding all the various metrics we take for our teams and how difficult it is to get all the numbers people want to know what's going on is very saddening. You'd think that we're an IT company and could do this sort of stuff easily, but not so much ( Read more... )

Your mistake is in thinking of this as an IT issue, when it is in fact a management issue. Skills needed to be good at IT are almost (but not quite) mutually exclusive to those needed to manage personnel. ;)

Trust me, this is a tools issue. Our CRM software is from 1974 (literally) and the reporting on it leaves a LOT to be desired. We spend a crapload of time figuring out what info we can actually get out of it, and what we'll just have to live without. The management team ends up having to kind of wing it on some stuff, which has mixed results.
It's an embarrassment, honestly.
