Re: Writing, NaNoWriMo, Roleplay etc. (LONG)

Since this topic has come up among a few of my friends, I thought I would comment. It seems that it has gone on for a little while. Rather than sit on my hands, I am just going to let things fall where they will. Please note that nothing in this post is about anyone specifically, it is just a general commentary and needs to be iterated ( Read more... )

I've been roleplaying since I was eleven. ELEVEN. That's ten years. Roleplaying has always been outlet for me to escape from the stresses of RL if only temporary. Being left-handed and a Gemini, it's also a good way for me to let go of the creative juices that are ALWAYS flooding my brain. When I write, I want to enjoy myself and have fun with my friends and the people I write with ( ... )

HAHA. That would be the genius work of lollobrigida. :D I love it so!

I honestly never expected Athos to click so well with her. Dan did apparently, but not me. The fact that Fanny was adamant with talking to him despite his rejection and wariness towards her gender definitely made a great difference. I never thought the events that did happen would happen. It was my bad for believing Athos had finally found his happily ever after. I should've known that man's heart is cursed from the very start! ROFL. But I agree! The angst does make it fun and interesting. I love writing it and I'm sadistic that way. :D Look at the Milady situation. HEE.

Well, it's a shame that people are against OCs because you really have a wonderful one. :) I love writing with you and Fanny. The other night still makes me go "OMFG". It definitely showed me a more 'won't take crap' side of Athos (even with those who are close to him). They had their little feud while we munched on our popcorn.

Thank you for the compliment. She has been alot of fun and a constant surprise for me.

Yes, when Athos pissed her off and she drew a poisoned Sidhe trident on him I just went, "Guh!What in the HELL!?" I think that she doesn't take his crap either, and it took him not taking her self indulgent whining and saying something jolting to give her her spine back! I thank you for that, btw. It was definitely needed! *g*

Amen. Role-playing isn't just about the ability to play a character, but the ability to mold that character and alter them throughout a story. It's both acting, and creating all in the same. If everyone played a character the same way, you'd have nothing but clones. It's the modifications we add onto characters that give them flavor.

Heya! Welcome to the nightmare mayhem that is my LJ. I have heard so much about you via jessierarr. She speaks very, VERY highly of you, btw.

I would agree. For me, however, Fanny is based on an ancestor of mine. As I learn more about that ancestor and as the character herself evolves, inevitably some things get changed around. I like the complexities in characters, that like people, we can't always instantly figure out what motivates them. People are complex beasts, and so are some characters - hopefully. I would like to think I do that as much as I can with all of my characters.

Anyway, welcome to the journal. Do you mind if I friend you, too?

And THAT is what makes a good role player. Humanity is complex -- role-playing is an art that takes a skilled mind to master. Breaking past the mold and actually -thinking- like a character, -morphing- a character -- that is true role play. It's not copying an existing thing, but living it through their eyes.

And by all means, add away! My journal is normally not very colorful, but it's always nice to be connected to good people :).

That is because you so rock and I love you...and your muses.

And believe me, sweetie. The longer you know me, the more you realize that the occassional rant will occur! ;)

Too tired to log onto my omgwtf_dfw account

What it comes to is this, for me. Character development. No, I fully admit, that I have several muses that are not likely to change much and that would be to my discredit. I could take more time, but time has moved on and while I still play them, I have characters, my first oc ones, which are grabbing my attention. One of them, I fall into danger into molding her into an atia clone. I don't want that, so I try to make sure that I keep what I can organized about her and her brother ...distinguish meta from in game or story arc that are runs separate.

How cheesy is it of me to do nothing with my characters and other people’s characters, which I can't back peddle out of? This is a new lesson learned -- of not relying upon others for my character's main development.

That so made sense before I typed it.

That's ok, I am lazy, too! fannyfae November 1 2006, 04:18:56 UTC
I really love what you have done with Atia. I also love what you have done with some of your other muses, whom I won't metion here, because I am not sure if you want everyone to know it is you writing them. (Some people are tight lipped about that, so I wanted go be sure!)

I think that if you are openly communicating with the other writers, and the communication is honest, then it should all be fine. You need to do what you feel safe doing with your characters. That is very important. I think if I had been smart, I would have been much more clear about what was canon, what was RP, what was meta, etc. Because it seems as if so many different people have different versions as to what is what as far as defninitions go. Maybe if that were consistent across the board with all players, it may make it a bit easier.

I love what I did to Atia too, but I let her rp life run rampant so much so that I needto pull her away for a good long while (except a meta thread she is in discreetly)

True, but there's one in every bunch.... *points to self*

Example

OOC == out of character = your character is out of character

To me ooc =/= Meta

ooc = to me using character journal space to talk as the writer

Errm the ambien is kicking in can you tell?

and meta itself is the character playing in a thread that has no part of in game activities
