Awesome.
Another interesting point is that slash was talked so openly on Attack the Show on G4. It's not exactly the place that deviates from heteronormative guy talk and female objectification. Maybe it's just their laugh track, but I didn't get the impression that anyone was remotely uncomfortable about it.

I do think some fanboys are getting at least to the point of acceptance of slash. It may be a joke to them, but they can't turn a blind eye as they once did, because it's out there in the open, not hidden under the dealer's table at a con.
I think having John Barrowman not only having portrayed an omnisexual character in Doctor Who/Torchwood, but also openly gay in the real world is having an interesting ripple effect. He's been doing a lot of hosting with G4, such as from Comic Con, and I think his presence does a lot to get people used to the idea of LGBT characters and actual people.
The original Star Trek did a lot of barrier breaking back in the day regarding race, simply by having non-white characters in prominent roles. I think sci-fi is the obvious choice to lead the way again in acceptance of LGBT.

Pretty sure I need a Mrs. White Clue gif to describe my feelings on the matter.

Barrowman is subtly (and not-so-subtly) doing quite a bit to push general fandom towards acceptance of GLBT characters, and the actual people who are GLBT. He's living proof of IDIC in actin.
