What I do for actors.

So I decided to watch Tactical Force because Michael Shanks, Lexa Doig, and Steve Bacic are in it. Twenty minutes in, and I'm just dying over teeny tiny Lexa as a SWAT team member, not to mention Michael's horrid accent (you'd think he'd learned from that pseudo German one in SG-1).

It's like shooting fish in a barrel spotting Stargate actors, ( Read more... )

lexa doig, stargate, steve bacic, michael shanks, movies

Haha, anything that stars a pro wrestler is bound to be awful, no?

I think my spirit was broken within the first 10 minutes, when the SWAT team leader arrived on scene and hung up on a hostage taker who was talking negotiation. He just had his team go in balls to the walls shooting with lots of property damage, injury to suspects and hostages, then expecting the call into the chief's office to mean they were getting a pat on the back.

More like a boot up the backside and shown the door, but this is a barely B level action film, so... just go with it.

First thing I ever saw Lexa Doig in was that awful remake of The Professionals - despite several doses of brain bleach, it's left a stain I don't think I'll ever get over - you are a brave one indeed! ( ... )

I saw her first (that I can remember definitely), in the series Andromeda. Canadian actors pop up in so many shows I watch, that sometimes it takes a big role where they finally "click" in my brain, then I realize I have seen them in other things, they just didn't register then.

They're such an adorable couple. I hate to see them wasted in something completely plotless, but I would love someone to ask at a con if Lexa gave him utter shit about his accent. ;)

Oh, and feel free to borrow the brain bleach!

Oh damn! I actually bought the DVD from Amazon but haven't watched it yet. Michael does another bad accent? Like the Irish one wasn't bad enough in that one movie with the lady judge. Ha. Oh well, thanks for setting my expectations properly low! :)

Remember my mantra: Watch it for the pretty.

Michael's supposedly a Russian bad guy. He at least stays in this accent. That Irish one came and went at random.

This is one of those movies where the "good guys" and the "bad guys" pass the Stupid Stick back and forth so many times, I forgot I was supposed to be rooting for the good guys. I thought the bad guys were more entertaining, but then they often are.

You need to watch it, so I can share my amusement over a bit in the film where I did get a Stargate related giggle. Wasn't intended by the filmmaker, but I'm easily amused.

Remember my mantra: Watch it for the pretty.

I've just checked my emails and there's one from amazon.co.uk to say the dvd is on it's way, I will be watching for the pretty and no doubt the accent will make me squirm. Some people can do accents, other's can't to save their life.

I think maybe it's because I've been listening to the actor's voice for over a decade, it will never sound quite right in an accent. Plus, he's not really good at it, bless 'im. ;)

I happened to catch the SG-1 episode last weekend with Ernest, played by Paul McGillion, and even though I knew that was his natural speaking voice, I'm more used to his Scottish accent (also real) as Carson Beckett that it sounded strange to hear his natural voice.

Sort of like hearing John Barrowman switch over to his Scottish accent. He very rarely does, and his American accent is also real and a "neutral" one that many actors would use. I saw him in one interview switching back and forth and it was downright freaky sounding.

You can pretty much categorize Canadian TV shows as Vancouver or Toronto within 2 scenes, based on actors (not scenery).

Actually, I remember the commentary for an episode of This Is Wonderland where the producers talked about knowing every actor in town and being blown away by this middle-aged "newcomer" they'd never seen before. Because he was from Saskatchewan.

I'm not watching TV lately, and it doesn't sound like I'm missing anything with this show!

Thankfully, this was only a DVD, so just 90 minutes now gone from my life.

There's a Hollywood and New York split that's pretty similar. New York actors tend to want to stick around for big stage productions, but will fly out to LA for other roles. Some shows are filmed in New York, some in the Hollywood area, but most of the "Hollywood" TV shows and movies are actually Vancouver.
