Oh god, I don't even know where to start *head/desk*-ing over that casting call. Quite attractive? Token disabled person? Magical sci-fi treament? CALISTA FLOCKHART?

I KNOW! I don't think I've ever seen so much fail in one casting call before. It's pretty offensive all around.

That is the most disgusting casting call I have ever read. Because like you said, it's not like she'll be realistically thin. She'll be sexy actress thin.

I am so glad I want nothing to do with SGU. It really is some kind of soap in space. (But worse - no offense to soaps.)

I've noticed men's descriptions generally tend to be more vague. They mention build or ethnicity if it's needed for the plot.

For women, it's almost always some variation of thin and attractive, unless they want a fat woman to be the butt of the joke.

So I'm not surprised by the casting call, just disgusted by it as usual.

Okay, first I have to admit I was baffled long before I got to the description of the wafer-thin actress. They've already started filming; how many episodes do they already have in the can? Everyone is trapped aboard the ship, right? When and how is the quadriplegic "brought on board the Destiny"?

At least with Dark Angel, what seemed to be a quick cure for Logan turned out to be a heck of a lot more complicated, and they dealt somewhat with the emotional fallout. Here, the ship magically fixes her?

However, it's necessary, because everyone on the show must have sex, but of course quadriplegics can't experience any kind of intimacy, right? [/sarcasm] I suppose it's ridiculous to think they'd have done any research on that issue when they haven't done any on far more basic things (like the laws of physics).

I know they're going to use one of the devices found previously to allow the Destiny crew to contact the SGC, and in turn, their loved ones. Though if I understand correctly, it's the one where their consciousness will be taking a ride in someone else's body, so that brings up all kind of icky regarding intimacy ( ... )

I think this casting call was designed to offend as many people as possible.
I'll let Marvin speak for me on that count. The really sad part is that I can hear a stunned male voice in my head responding to that charge, "But we're being inclusive! We're creating a character with a major disability! Why are you offended?"

They had at least one woman writer at the start of SG-1, but the group of writers seemed to narrow on that and then SGA, until it was always the same names. The last time I can remember spotting a new writer, it as Alan McCullough, who came in 2005. Did I miss anyone more recent, or did that writers' room not change again until the series had both ended?

They've had three females listed in the writing credits for SG-1. Or at least I'm assuming female by the name. I shouldn't do that, because the name I go by can be for either gender.

Katharyn Powers has listings as "written by" or "teleplay by" for: Emancipation, Brief Candle, Thor's Hammer, Enigma, Thor's Chariot, Family, Serpent's Song, Pretense, Crossroads, and Smoke & Mirrors. There's more under the title of "executive story consultant" and a couple of "excerpts written by" which are from clip episodes.

Heather E. Ash has listings as "written by" or "teleplay by" for: Rite of Passage, Beneath the Surface, New Ground, Foothold, and Learning Curve.

Victoria James has listings as "written by" or "teleplay by" for A Hundred Days and an "excerpts by" for Citzen Joe.

As far as I know, Amanda Tapping is the only female director, and she had to put it into her contract in order to do so.

W.T.F???

Yet another reason not to watch SG-90210. As if I needed another.

*sigh*

It's just wrong on so many levels, isn't it?

I bet they're petting themselves on the back for including a "disabled" character, while petting another part of their anatomy over making her a hot chick who wants to have sex.
